The Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested Sub-Inspector Balwan Singh, posted at City Police Station in Sonipat, on charges of accepting a bribe of ₹50,000. The bribe was allegedly demanded in exchange for providing a copy of a settlement to the complainant’s brother.
A government spokesperson revealed that the ACB had received a complaint regarding this case. The complainant stated that a complaint had been filed against his brother at the City Police Station, which was subsequently resolved through a settlement between the parties.
However, Sub-Inspector Balwan Singh allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 to provide the complainant’s brother with a copy of the settlement. Prior to this, the accused had already taken ₹3.5 lakh in bribes.
To catch the accused, the ACB planned a raid. During the operation, Balwan Singh initially fled with the bribe money but was apprehended shortly afterward by the ACB team.
The investigation is ongoing, and crucial evidence is being collected to proceed further. A case has been registered against the accused at the Rohtak Anti-Corruption Bureau Police Station, and all actions were taken transparently in the presence of witnesses.
The bureau’s spokesperson urged the public to report any instances of government officials demanding bribes. Complaints can be registered with the Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau on the toll-free numbers 1800-180-2022 or 1064.
