GNDU bags FSSAI ‘Eat Right Campus’ Certification

In one more pioneering feat,Guru Nanak Dev University has been awarded the certification for Eat Right Campus by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for providing safe and nutritious food.

The ‘Eat Right Campus’ is an initiative by Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) aims to promote safe, healthy and sustainable food in campuses. To fulfil the Eat Right Campus audit requirement, representative staff, and food handlers underwent Food Safety Training and Certification (FOSTAC).

The audit was conducted on safe food, healthy food, sustainable food and building awareness.Attributing this achievement to the teamwork of all the stakeholders, Prof (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu Vice Chancellor said “Getting this recognition is a sense of fulfilment to promote not only high-quality services in Mess and canteens but also inculcate healthy eating in campus which is like a second home to our students.

I take this opportunity to thank all the stakeholders, faculty, supporting staff, canteen contractors and our students who have contributed in achieving this mile stone.”

On this occasion Prof. K.S. Kahlon, Registrar said that the approved certification has provided an ensured value regarding the Quality and Hygiene of food within the university Campus, exclusively for the students.

Dr Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi , Dean Students’ Welfare said that GNDU has undergone a thorough assessment and evaluation of their mess, food joints and canteens within the campus.

This had been conducted under the presence of an FSSAI Quality Auditor appointed by the External Audit Partner Quality Austria Central Asia Pvt. Ltd. authorized by the Quality Council of India (QCI).

The audit is done through a checklist based on five parameters i.e. a) Compliance to food safety and hygiene b) Healthy diets c) Food waste management d) Promotion of local and seasonal foods on campus e) Promotion and awareness on food safety and healthy diets in and around campus.

On the basis of final audit, the institute is certified as ‘Eat Right Campus’. Dr Bedi further saidthat the certification would further ensure safe nutritious food and promotion of healthy eating in the campus contributing to building a healthy nation.
