“While we were boys in school” – a book on collection of memoirs by former Civil Surgeon Bathinda Dr. Raghubir Singh Randhawa was released at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of 1974 batch at PPS Nabha today.
Head master of PPS Nabha, Dr DC Sharma released the book that recounts the life of Dr. Randhawa as a student of the premier institute. Releasing the book Dr Sharma congratulated Dr Randhawa on his maiden voyage as an author. He said that the book takes one winding down the memory lanes of school years.
Dr. Raghubir Singh Randhawa, a distinguished ophthalmologist, retired as Civil Surgeon in 2018 after 35 years of service. Born in Bathinda, he studied at the Punjab Public School Nabha and completed his medical education at Government Medical College, Amritsar. Now retired from medicine, he has wielded a pen to don the role of an author.
This book is the first part of his memoirs where he shares the stories from life in a boarding school 50 years ago. This book is a time capsule from an era when things were simpler, viewed from the perspective of a young boy trying to find his way in life.
Dr Randhawa said that the first edition of the book has already been sold out and now the second edition shall be published soon. He was overwhelmed by the popular response for the book. He said that traditionally a book from the autobiography genre gathers traction only if it has been written by some popular face.
But this book has challenged the notion successfully and this underscores the value of every life being documented in its richness. And if executed with commitment it will certainly find readers.
The book has been published by Nisha Publications, New Delhi.
Dr Randhawa’s batchmates from the class of 1974 were also present at the book release ceremony.
