Family members of leading martyrs to be honoured during 100 year centenary of Saka Sri Panja Sahib

Amritsar, April 15, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
On the occasion of 100 year anniversary centenary of Shaheedi Saka (martyrdom massacre) that took place at Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib (now in Pakistan) on October 30, 1922, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will conduct research on various aspects of this massacre and compile a collection of publications. SGPC has also taken a decision to honour the family members of leading martyrs of Saka Sri Panja Sahib including Shaheed Bhai Karam Singh and Shaheed Bhai Pratap Singh.

These decisions were taken during the Sikh Itihas Research Board meeting held at the SGPC office on Saturday, which was presided over by SGPC President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh.

Addressing the media, after the meeting, S. Harjinder Singh said that the first centenary of Saka Sri Panja Sahib is being marked on October 30, 2022, with regards to which, Samagams (congregations) will be held in India and Pakistan.

“SGPC wants a large Sikh Jatha (group) of pilgrims to participate in the Samagams to be held in Pakistan and communications will be done with the concerned governments in this regard”, said SGPC President S. Harjinder Singh.

He said that before marking the centenary of Saka Sri Panja Sahib, the 100 year anniversary centenary of ‘Guru Ka Bagh Morcha’ will be marked on August 8, 2022 and a congregation will be held in this regard at Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh at Ghukewali near Amritsar.

SGPC President said that this year on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Independence Day of the country, the contribution of Sikhs in the freedom struggle will be researched from every aspect and brought to the fore in an authentic manner.

“More than 80 per cent of sacrifices were made by the Sikhs in the freedom struggle of the country but it is unfortunate that they have not been brought to the fore in predominant manner. SGPC has decided that the role of Sikhs in the freedom of the country should be fully brought to the fore so that future generations can be proud of their martyrs. It is very important to bring to light the pages of Sikh history up to the present time and the SGPC will work for the same”, said S. Harjinder Singh.

SGPC President added that similarly a researched publication would soon be handed over to the Sangat about the tortures that Sikhs faced in the Cellular Jail of Andaman and Nicobar, which is also called as ‘Kalapani Jail’. “The work has almost completed in this regard, which has been approved by the Sikh Itihas Research Board, but it will be published after another examination by the experts”, said S. Harjinder Singh.

Those present in the meeting included Dr. Balwant Singh Dhillon, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, S. Harwinder Singh Khalsa, SGPC executive committee member S. Jogh Singh, SGPC member Bhai Manjit Singh, S. Mangwinder Singh, S. Bawa Singh, OSD to SGPC President S. Satbir Singh, additional secretary S. Partap Singh, assistant secretary S.
