Senior leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab and Leader of Opposition, Harpal Singh Cheema, has expressed his deep concern over the way drug mafia was active in Punjab and its neighboring states even during the curfew clampdown, leading to loss of precious young lives.
In a statement issued from party headquarters on Thursday, Cheema said that during the last three days, one youth was shot dead allegedly by drug peddlers and two youths succumbed to drug overdose in the state, which, he said, was a matter of concern. He said the cases were those reported in the through the media, adding that there were many unreported cases.
The LoP said that as per the government guidelines to stop the spread of corona virus in the state, two village youths under Ferozepur district were performing duty at a ‘naka’ point, when they were allegedly shot dead by drug peddlers owing allegiance to a prominent mafia gang.
He added that the while the government should order a time-bound high-level judicial probe into the incident, it should declare the slain youth Judge Singh a corona ‘martyr’ and announce a financial aid of Rs one crore to the famil and a govt job to next of kin of the deceased, besides bearing the whole treatment expenses of the injured youth, and a government job to a member of his family.
Cheema said that it was shocking than surprising that drug traffickers were active in the state even during the curfew in place, saying “Had the government cracked a whip on the drug mafia, precious lives of two innocent teenagers died due to drug overdose in Mansa district could have been saved. Cheema demanded that the Captain government should crack a whip on the drug traffickers and save lives from perishing .
