Director Mozez Singh, who recently appeared on a podcast, shared his journey of making a place for himself in Bollywood, discussing the early struggles and how he eventually found his footing in the industry. He spoke candidly about entering an industry where he had little understanding of how things worked and how he managed to carve out a space for himself.
Reflecting on his experience, he said, “It took me a very long time.” He explained that the first major lesson he learned was to “unlearn the sense of entitlement.”
Coming from a privileged background, he had to shed the feeling that the industry owed him something. He also had to “let go of his own preconceived notions” about how things should be. According to Mozez, the key to success was to simply keep working, understand the business, and hone his craft.
“It’s a process,” he noted, emphasizing that this journey took time and involved learning from mistakes along the way. Mozez further shared that he had never attended film school or assisted anyone in the industry. “I did not come with a truckload of experiences, I came just with passion,” he said. Despite the challenges, he expressed deep gratitude for everything he had been through.
On the work front, Mozez is currently preparing for the release of his directorial documentary ‘Famous’, which delves into the life of rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh. Produced by Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga, the documentary promises to offer an emotional, authentic and unprecedented look at one of India’s biggest music stars. It will be available to stream on OTT platforms soon.
