Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, has been entrusted with the additional charge of Director at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. He assumed this role on Friday, July 26, 2024.
Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari is an acclaimed academician with over 41 years of academic experience. He has served as the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar M.P. for five and a half years and now is serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Punjab, Bathinda since August 2020.
Under Prof. Tiwari’s leadership, the Central University of Punjab has achieved significant milestones in education and research. The university has been accredited with NAAC ‘A+’ grade in its 2nd Cycle of assessment and has been consistently ranked among the ‘Top 100 Universities of India’ in the NIRF India Rankings for five consecutive years.
Prof. Tiwari has also been instrumental in implementing the recommendations of NEP-2020 at the university, focusing on a multidisciplinary approach and introducing an LOCF-based multidisciplinary curriculum, ABC, MEE, among others.
After assuming the additional charge of Director at IIAS, Prof. Tiwari received greetings from Prof. ShashiPrabha Kumar, President of the IIAS Society and Chairperson of the Governing Body.
On this momentous occasion, officials and faculty members of the Central University of Punjab also extended their congratulations to Prof. Tiwari. Dr. Vijay Sharma, Registrar of CU Punjab, stated that it is a moment of immense pride for the CU Punjab fraternity that their Vice-Chancellor has been entrusted with this additional responsibility of heading a prestigious institute IIAS, Shimla, which is known its quality research in social sciences discipline.
According to a notice from the Ministry of Education, Prof. Tiwari will continue to serve as Director In-Charge of IIAS, Shimla, until the appointment of a regular director.
IIAS Shimla is a premier research institute inaugurated by Prof. S. Radhakrishnan on 20 October 1965. The institute provides a conducive environment for research in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
The institute aims to foster a culture of intellectual inquiry and dialogue, promoting interdisciplinary studies and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in various fields.
A significant highlight associated with the location of IIAS Shimla, is that the building housing the institute was originally built as a home for Lord Dufferin, the Viceroy of India from 1884 to 1888.
