Congress Won’t Allow BJP To Tamper With Voter Rolls in Punjab Or Anywhere Else – Pargat Singh

August 2, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Padma Shri Pargat Singh, MLA and Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, today strongly condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central Government for its misuse of the Election Commission to manipulate voter rolls across India.

Calling it a “direct assault on India’s democratic foundation,” he expressed deep concern over the shocking deletion of more than 65 lakh (6.5 million) voters from Bihar’s electoral rolls as part of the recent Special Summary Revision.

“If BJP is not stopped from using such tactics, public trust in the Election Commission will be irreparably damaged. We’ve seen this in Maharashtra earlier, and now in Bihar—mass disenfranchisement is a dangerous trend,” said Pargat Singh.

“Punjab could be next. The BJP may attempt to manipulate voter lists here as well to further its electoral goals.”

Bihar Voter List Cuts Are Not a Coincidence – They Are Alarming

Pargat Singh pointed out that Bihar’s registered voters have inexplicably dropped from 7.9 crore to 7.24 crore – a reduction of over 65 lakh voters. The scale of deletion is abnormal and deeply suspicious.

The largest cuts were seen in Patna (3.95 lakh), Madhubani, East Champaran, and Gopalganj, suggesting a targeted approach toward specific regions. He demanded an urgent, independent investigation into the basis and intent behind such selective deletions.

Rahul Gandhi’s Warnings Ring True Again

Pargat Singh reaffirmed that this incident echoes Rahul Gandhi’s consistent warnings about the erosion of India’s democratic values.

“If millions of citizens can be silently erased from electoral rolls, what faith remains in a free and fair electoral process? This is not a clerical mistake—it’s a systemic sabotage.”

Is This a Deliberate Political Disenfranchisement?

Pargat Singh questioned the silence of the NDA government and the Bihar Chief Minister on the issue:

“If this had happened in a Congress-ruled state, BJP would have been demanding resignations. Why the double standard? Is this merely administrative, or a calculated political purge?”

Congress Demands Immediate Action:
1. A time-bound and independent inquiry into the deletion of 6.5 million voters.

2. Full disclosure by the Election Commission on the criteria and process followed.

3. Reopening of the voter verification process, especially for those whose names were removed.

4. Targeted review in border and underdeveloped areas, including regions like Seemanchal.

This Is About Rights, Not Politics

“This is not about politics – this is about constitutional rights,” Pargat Singh emphasized.
“The right to vote is sacred and cannot be taken away in silence. Congress will raise this issue at every level – from the Election Commission to Parliament, and if needed, in court.”
