Sultanpur Lodhi, May 1, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Under the leadership of Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal, a special meeting was held to prepare a strategy in advance for protection against possible floods in the Mand area.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal instructed officials to make proper arrangements in advance for protection against possible floods before the start of the rainy season. Officials should visit flood-prone areas on the ground level beforehand and prepare a basic action plan so that if a flood-like situation arises, relief and protection work can be carried out in a systematic and planned manner.
After this, Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal, along with other district administrative officials, visited the advance embankment of the Beas River and inspected sensitive areas.
They also reviewed the vulnerable sections of the embankment that are being strengthened with stones. It may be noted that last year in August, a breach in the embankment caused large-scale damage to the standing paddy crop in the area of Ahli Khurd. They directed officials to continuously monitor this area from time to time.
Earlier, in a meeting held at the local Market Committee office under the leadership of Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, panchayats from the Mand area were also invited. Sarpanches of various villages provided detailed information about the damage caused during the floods in August last year.
During this, Sarpanch Shaminder Singh of Ahli Kalan provided information regarding the installation of stones at Karmunwal Pattan. The department also discussed work related to filling soil at two embankment points from Ahli Khurd to Aluwal.
In the meeting, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal also raised issues related to internal roads of Sultanpur Lodhi city, cleanliness, illegal encroachments and installation of CCTV cameras to curb criminal activities. The Deputy Commissioner issued directions to the concerned officials regarding these matters.
On this occasion, Additional Constituency In-charge Sajjan Singh Cheema and officials from various departments were also present.
