CM Bhagwant Mann approves Rs.165-cr worth projects for supply of clean water in villages: Jimpa

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has approved projects worth Rs. 165.53 crore for the supply of clean drinking water in the villages of Punjab. Through these projects, the quality of water will improve in the villages of the border districts as well as in other districts of the state and wherever there is shortage or scarcity of water, abundant water supply will be ensured.

Divulging more, the Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa informed that 4 such projects have been approved under different schemes through which clean potable water will be supplied. He said that 63 schemes in 16 districts are proposed to be completed in 2023-24 at a cost of Rs. 55.83 crore. Out of these 16 districts, 6 border districts have also been included named Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Fazilka and Ferozepur.

Similarly 181 new schemes of 21 districts are under construction/renewal at a cost of Rs 55.61 crore, Jimpa added. The work will be completed before March 2024. He further said that works are underway in 7 districts at a cost of Rs. 40.35 crore which will be completed in 2023-24. Jimpa said that project to install 103 new tubewells in 16 districts at a cost of Rs. 13.74 crore would be completed before March 2024. “We’ve included 3 border districts Pathankot, Ferozepur and Fazilka in this project, he said.”

Jimpa said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced several times that developing villages and equipping them with all kinds of facilities is the priority of the Punjab Government and the Water Supply and Sanitation department is making its full contribution to fulfill this promise.
