Bibi Jagir Kaur condemns forcing Amritdhari Sikh candidates to remove Kakaars during Patwari exam

Amritsar, August 8, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Bibi Jagir Kaur has taken stern notice of the intolerable act of forcing the Amritdhari (initiated or baptised) Sikh candidates to remove Kakaars to take Patwari exam at a college in Sector 32, Chandigarh on Sunday.

In a statement issued by the SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur said that for the Amritdhari Sikhs, the five Kakaars are an important part of Rehat Maryada (Sikh code of conduct) which cannot be separated from the body.

“India is a multi-religious country whose constitution allowed everyone to live according to their own faith. In such a situation, forcing the Sikh candidates to remove Kakaars to sit for the exam has hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs. Ignorance of the sentiments of Sikhs in Chandigarh which is a part of Punjab can never be tolerated”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

SGPC President alleged it seems that all this has been done intentionally and after the protest of the candidates, they were allowed to sit for the test by putting tapes on their Kirpans (9 inches).

Bibi Jagir Kaur demanded strict action from the Chandigarh Administrator against the concerned officials and also asked the Punjab Chief Minister to take stern action against such a decision which can never be tolerated in the Punjab capital.
