Punjab Guv Kataria to honor folk artists with NZCC Awards during Chandigarh Craft Fair

The meeting of the Board of Governors of North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala (Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) was held under the Chairpersonship of Governor of Punjab at Hotel Lakend, Udaipur. The Governor is ex officio Chairperson of NZCC.

Shri Gulab Chand Kataria will give away young artists honour awards and life time achievement awards to senior folk artists of the NZCC during Chandigarh Craft Fair scheduled to be held from 29th Nov to 8th Dec. Folk artists award were instituted last year. This year at the initiation of Honourable Governor Punjab and Chairperson NZCC two awards for young folk artists have also been instituted.

The Board of Governors also approved the recommendations made by the Finance Committees and Executive Board of NZCC that include approval of Rs.2300.00 lakh as expenditure during the year 2023-24 for programmes/activities and Non-Programme sides; and budget approval amounting to Rs.1600.00 lakh for organization of Programmes/activities and Non-Programme sides during 2024-25.

Hon’ble Governor also directed that all art forms should be given proper weightage, keeping in view of the basic mandate of the Zonal Cultural Centres and emphasis the need to encourage young talented artists.

A documentary on ‘Pandav Leela’ – Uattarakhand was screened in the meeting alongwith glimpses of major programmes and festivals organised last year by NZCC. Director NZCC, Furqan Khan explained the working of NZCC and financial position through a power point presentation.

Furqan Khan apprised the house that the Ministry of Culture enhanced the rates of honorarium for all genre of artists, which has been implemented from this Financial Year. The House appreciated the effort of Ministry of Culture.

Amita Prasad Sarbhai, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture joined the meeting online suggested that member states and NZCC should work in close coordination so that real artists can be benefitted from the schemes of Ministry of Culture.

Honourable Governor appreciated the working of NZCC and its Director. He congratulated NZCC Director and his team for hardwork and maintaining transparency in its daily affairs.

Paviter Singh, PCS, Director Industries, UT Chandigarh; Sh. Nazir Hussain, Deputy Secretary, Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, Kargil, U.T. Ladakh etc.
