New Delhi, Oct 5 2024-

Amid the polling for 90 Assembly constituencies, former Haryana minister Anil Vij exercised franchisee in his Assembly constituency on Saturday. Vij, the BJP candidate from Ambala Cantt constituency exuded confidence that party will form government in Haryana and also sought to send a message that he was the senior most leader in state unit and hence was a ‘suitable’ candidate for the Chief Ministerial post.

“In 2014, when our government was formed, I was the senior-most leader. Before that, from 2009 to 2014, I was the Leader of Opposition. During that tenure, I raised many corruption cases during Congress regime, many of which are still ongoing against Bhupinder Singh Hooda,” said Anil Vij.

He further mentioned, “When Manohar Lal Khattar was replaced by Nayab Singh Saini as Chief Minister, then also I was the senior most leader. However, concerns arose among the people of Haryana, asking why a junior leader like Nayab Singh Saini could become CM but not Anil Vij. Some leaders even remarked that they wanted to make me Chief Minister but believed I didn’t want the role.”

He however denied that he pitched for the CM post during the recent transition of power in Haryana.

“I have always been a obedient party worker, have carried all tasks as instructed by the party. When there was a shooting in Ayodhya and the party asked me to go, I went. As state president, I was asked to go to Lal Chowk in Jammu and Kashmir, I went there,” he said.

The BJP leader further stated adding that if the party asked him to be Chief Minister, why would he deny it? “If chosen as the next CM, I will enthusiastically accept the role and work for the betterment of Haryana,” he said.

He also lashed out at Opposition’s ‘politics of fakery’ and said that the people of Ambala want peace and they will vote for progress and development and not for those who want to instigate violence with their divisive and negative approach.

Regarding former Chief Minister Hooda’s son alleged connection with key operative in Delhi drugs haul, he said, “the people of Haryana have made it clear they will never support those who promote addiction. They are determined not to give the Congress party another chance to rule the state.” (Agency)
