Punjab & Haryana High Court has come to the rescue of a District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) who stands suspended on the verbal orders of a minister.
The Minister reportedly suspended the DEEO for her ‘arrogant’ style.
The High Court has said, the order issued regarding suspension was without jurisdiction, as the Minister had no authority to issue such a direction.
The High Court has stayed the operation of the order till the next date fixed in the matter.
The matter pertains to Haryana where DEEO Dr. Nirmal Dahiya’s verbal suspension orders were issued by Dr. Banwari Lal, Minister of Public Health & Engineering in a meeting of the Grievance Redressal Committee held on July 7, 2024, and a suspension order was issued in this respect on August 12, 2024.
The court has issued a notice of motion for November 8, 2024, and stayed the operation of the suspension order till then.
This is not a one-off incident, and Ministers, not only in Haryana but across the states in the country, have been publicly issuing orders of suspension of officers and officials.
