Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green and Second Secretary Orson Pasi met Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon in Chandigarh on Wednesday and discussed issues related to the growing India-Australia relationship, with a particular focus on Punjab’s ties with Australia.
Dhillon said the discussions focused on the safety and welfare of the Punjabi community, Sikhs and students living in Australia, besides issues being faced by them.
He said a large number of Punjabi youth travel abroad for education and employment opportunities, making their safety, dignity and well-being a matter of great importance for Punjab.
Dhillon said the relationship between Punjab and Australia extends beyond diplomatic ties, with the Punjabi diaspora playing an important role in bringing people of the two countries closer.
The discussions also covered Punjab’s rich historical heritage, culture and development journey, as well as the contribution of the Punjabi diaspora across the world.
Dhillon said Punjabis are known for their hard work and integrity and have made their mark in various fields in Australia. He added that the Punjabi community in Australia had emerged as a strong bridge of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
He said India-Australia relations were steadily strengthening and the Punjabi community was making a constructive contribution towards deepening these ties.
Dhillon expressed hope that cooperation between Punjab and Australia would expand further in areas including education, youth, skill development, investment and people-to-people exchanges.
