Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Tuesday paid heartfelt tributes to Border Security Force (BSF) martyr Sub-Inspector Balbir Singh during his last rites at Dhillon Colony in Kotkapura and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
Paying homage to the fallen officer, Sandhwan said the nation would always remain indebted to brave soldiers who lay down their lives while safeguarding the country’s borders. He said the supreme sacrifice made by Sub-Inspector Balbir Singh in the line of duty would continue to inspire future generations.
The Speaker noted that Balbir Singh served the nation with unwavering dedication, sincerity and commitment, adding that his martyrdom was a matter of pride for the entire country.
Expressing solidarity with the martyr’s family, Sandhwan said the Punjab Government stood firmly with them during this difficult time. He prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and sought strength for the family to bear the irreparable loss.
Sub-Inspector Balbir Singh, son of S. Najar Singh, was serving with the 57th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Siliguri in West Bengal.
According to official information, he lost his life after being struck by lightning while performing his official duties. In recognition of his supreme sacrifice, the Government of India and the Border Security Force have accorded him the status of a martyr.
Several officials, public representatives and local residents were also present to pay their last respects to the brave BSF officer.
