Satluj Row: Giani Harpreet Singh Writes to HM Amit Shah, Seeks Truth Commission and Release of Movie

Chandigarh, 9 July, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) President Giani Harpreet Singh, in a press statement, said that if films like “The Kerala Story” or “The Kashmir Files” can be produced and screened under a specific government propaganda to highlight atrocities against the majority community in this country, then why was a film based on a true story depicting the oppression of Sikhs banned? This film, originally titled “Punjab-95,” was based on the life and struggle of the champion of human rights, Shaheed Jaswant Singh Khalra, and was released as “Sutlej” due to government pressure.

Giani Harpreet Singh said that the banning of this film proves that not only is delivering justice a distant dream, but we do not even have the right to show the deep scars of violence on our bodies in this country.

He said that it is also remarkable that those who came to power by promising a Truth Commission and strict punishment for the guilty, at that time gave promotions to the guilty police officers, and today they are shedding crocodile tears. Giani Harpreet Singh wrote a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that if he has even a little sympathy for Sikhs, he should form a Truth Commission to conduct an open inquiry into the wounds inflicted on Sikhs by the Congress party.

If desired, the Punjab government can also form this commission and conduct the inquiry. In this letter, he also urged the Home Minister to immediately release the film with its original title “Punjab-95.” This statement was issued to the press by Media Incharge S. Tajinder Singh Pannu.
