Demand Raised For Release Of Diljit Dosanjh-Starrer ‘Satluj’, Sai Mian Mir Foundation Submits Memo to Human Rights Commission

Ferozepur, July 9, 2026 (Vikram Ditya Sharma)

A delegation of the Sai Mian Mir Foundation submitted a memorandum to the Human Rights Commission seeking the removal of restrictions on the film “Satluj”, which is based on the life of noted human rights activist Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra.

The delegation, led by Foundation president Daljit Singh Sidhu, urged the authorities to review the matter and allow the film’s release at the earliest. In the memorandum, the organisation stated that the film portrays the life and work of Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra and highlights events from a difficult period in Punjab’s history.

Daljit Singh Sidhu alleged that the film was prevented from being released for a long period and was later removed even after being made available on an OTT platform. He said the film could help educate younger generations about important historical events and human rights issues.

Members of the foundation claimed that the film was being subjected to discrimination. They argued that while several films dealing with controversial subjects have been screened in theatres, “Satluj” has not been allowed a similar opportunity. The organisation urged the Central Government to reconsider the issue and permit the film’s theatrical release.

Responding to the memorandum, Human Rights Commission member Jatinder Singh Shanty said the representation would be forwarded to the government for consideration. He said the Commission remains committed to the protection of human rights and would convey the sentiments expressed by the organisation in its report.

Among those present on the occasion were Varinder Singh Dhillon, Navdeep Singh, Jaswant Singh, Gurmeet Singh and other members of the foundation.
