The Alumni Association, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COAET), in collaboration with the Department of Processing and Food Engineering organized a guest lecture by Dr Pankaj B Pathare, Associate Professor, Department of Soils, Water and Agricultural Engineering, College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman.
He delivered an enlightening lecture on the topic ‘Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Damage Assessment during Postharvest Handling’. The event was attended by about 50 students and faculty members.
Dr Pathare observed that the application of advanced techniques such as image analysis, hyperspectral imaging and AI tools in the detection and assessment of mechanical damage in the fruits and vegetables can help immensely in maintaining produce quality and safety in the supply chain.
Dr Manjeet Singh, Dean, COAET and the chief guest for the event, appreciated the expert speaker and applauded the efforts of the Alumni Association and the Department of Processing and Food Engineering for organizing this lecture on a highly relevant topic.
Dr TC Mittal, Head, Department of Processing and Food Engineering, said that this talk on significant topic of postharvest handling losses and their assessment will benefit the faculty and students, and help in aligning their research along these aspects.
Dr Preetinder Kaur, President of Alumni Association, shared the brief biosketch to introduce the expert speaker and emphasized the importance of such expert talks on advanced topics of global significance in enhancing knowledge and awareness of our students and faculty.
Dr Gurnaz Gill moderated the event and Dr Sandhya proposed a vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the felicitation of Dr Pathare by the dignitaries.
