19,243 Cases Settled in National Lok Adalat Held at Bathinda

Today, under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority and the able guidance of Hon’ble Shri Karunesh Kumar, District & Sessions Judge and Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Bathinda, the National Lok Adalat was held at the District Court Complex, Bathinda, as well as at the Court Complexes of Rampura Phul and Talwandi Sabo.

In this Lok Adalat, benches were constituted for disposal of cases in categories such as criminal compoundable cases, Section 138 NI Act matters, bank recovery cases, MACT cases, labour disputes, electricity and water bill-related cases, matrimonial matters, LAC cases, and other categories. A total of 16 benches were set up at District Court Complex, Bathinda, 2 benches at Rampura Phul, and 2 benches at Talwandi Sabo.

At District Court Complex Bathinda, under the Hon’ble presence of District & Sessions Judge Shri Karunesh Kumar, Additional District & Sessions Judges Rajiv Kalra, Ranjan Kumar Khullar, Ashish Abrol, Civil Judge (Senior Division) Inderjit Singh, and Civil Judges (Junior Division) Sandeep Kumar, Tarun Kumar, Shimpa Rani, Rasveen Kaur, Lovepreet Kaur, Sakshi Arora, Kunal Goel, Noor Sachdeva, Gunneek Kaur, Nishu and the Labour Court Judges, a total of 17,320 cases were disposed of.

At Court Complex Rampura Phul, under the Civil Judges (Junior Division) Priyanka and Reena Rani, 676 cases were disposed of, and at Court Complex Talwandi Sabo, under Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division) Karandeep Kaur and Civil Judge (Junior Division) Manjinder Singh, 1,247 cases were disposed of through amicable settlement.

In District Bathinda overall, 19243 cases were disposed of through amicable settlements in the Lok Adalat. Awards totalling ₹47,78,05,348/- (Forty-seven crore seventy-eight lakh five thousand three hundred and forty-eight rupees) were passed.

Hon’ble District & Sessions Judge Shri Karunesh Kumar also mentioned that some of the cases settled today were as old as 12 years.

On this occasion, Smt. Baljinder Kaur Mann, Civil Judge (Senior Division)-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, informed that prior to the Lok Adalat, several seminars had been organised, and para-legal volunteers had put up advertisements at public places in villages to spread awareness among the people about the benefits of the Lok Adalat.

Meetings were also held with officers of banks, insurance companies, and representatives of other departments to encourage them to refer cases to the Lok Adalats.
