Punjab Govt’s Pro-Public Reform: Government Officers to Remain Accessible 24×7

Chandigarh, April 28, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

In a groundbreaking administrative reform aimed at ensuring seamless public service delivery, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has issued directives requiring all government officers and employees in Punjab to remain accessible to the public via their mobile phones, even after office hours.

The move reflects the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) unwavering commitment to bringing governance closer to the people and addressing their concerns promptly.

Speaking on the directive, MLA Amritpal Sukhanand lauded the Mann government’s decision, calling it a “historic step in strengthening public trust in governance.”

He stated, “Since the formation of the AAP government in Punjab, our priority has always been to ensure that even the common man, who may not have access to influence or recommendations, can have their issues resolved efficiently and without hurdles. This decision is a clear reflection of our government’s dedication to public welfare.”

Under the directive, all government departments have been instructed to ensure that officials remain available to the public through their official mobile numbers at all times. This includes after-office hours, weekends, and holidays.

“Several officers already maintain open communication with the public, but there were instances where some would not respond after duty hours. This reform will put an end to such practices and ensure no public grievance goes unheard,” said Sukhanand.

The AAP MLA highlighted the government’s objective behind this initiative, emphasizing its focus on facilitating public services such as ration cards, voter ID cards, Aadhaar updates, general certificates, and registry services. He expressed confidence that this reform would eliminate the inconvenience often faced by citizens when officers are unavailable.

“From now on, any citizen, be it an elderly person, a youth, or a woman, can call the concerned government official at any hour for assistance or guidance. It will be mandatory for the officials to attend to these calls and address the issues raised.

This is the government of the people, and we are here to serve them tirelessly,” Sukhanand added. This initiative is part of a larger effort by the Mann government to make governance transparent, accessible, and people-centric.
