Himachal Vigilance Bureau and Anti-Corruption Bureau have arrested two Professors from Punjab.
Both professors were on inspection duty on behalf of the Pharmaceutical Council of India to inspect the pharmacy college in Kangra.
The two professors – Rakesh Chawla from Faridkot and Puneet Kumar from Barnala were detained and a sum of Rs.3.5 lakh was recovered from their possession.
A sum of Rs.1.70 lakh was recovered from the suitcase of Rakesh Chawla and a sum of Rs.1.80 lakh was seized from Puneet Kumar’s suitcase. The seized cash had slips from Axis Bank, Palampur Branch making the entire episode more suspicious.
The professors, when questioned, were unable to explain the source of the money seized.
The two had inspected a University in Palampur recently and it is suspected that they received undue advantage from the concerned institution in lieu of a favourable report regarding inspection.
A case has been registered against the duo on corruption charges in Rakkad Police Station.
They were produced in a court of law which remanded the two to three days vigilance remand
