Youth Akali Dal marches to CM Residence, Punjab Congress Bhawan, demands announcement of relief to flood victims

The Youth Akali Dal today workers took out a March from the SAD headquarters here to present a memorandum on flood relief to “ the leading members in the ‘AAPINCA’ ( Aam Adni Party and Indian National Congress) alliance Government,CM Bhagwant Mann, and Deputy CM’s designate, Partap Singh Bajwa and Raja Warring.

The march was led by the YAD president Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer. Hundreds of representative Youth Akali workers battled with the Chandigarh police that was trying to thwart their emergence from the party’s Sector 28 headquarters around 11.00 this morning. The workers jostled their way past the heavy contingents of police and managed to break their way on to the Madhya Marg using service lanes and slip roads.

They were stopped again with reinforcements of Chandigarh. At this, the Akali workers sat in dharna near a petrol pump, insisting they either be allowed to reach the CM residence or the state head office of the Congress party to present their memorancum against massive failure of the AAP-Congress alliance government in Punjab.

The workers said that they also wanted to offer their congratulations and ebay wishes to the leaders of the AAPINCA government , Bhagwant Mann, Partap SIngh Bajwa and Raja Warring for coming together to command an unprecedented majority of 110 members i the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

The agitators also wanted to congratulate with Mr Bajwa and Mr Warring as the Deputy Chief Minsiters-designate in their alliance govt. “ Bt we also wanted to offer our sypamthies to Mr Bajwas who deserved a better slot in his own alliance govt in view of his seniority and had to stomach humiliation by having to work under his erstwhile bete noir Bhagwant Mann.,” said he YAD Chief.

The Chandigarh Adminstration finally persuaded the protesters to present their memorandum through them on the promise that they will allow the workers to present the memorandum to the concerned leaders on a mutually agreed later date.

The youth Akali workers demanded that the erstwhile Congress leeaders Warring and Bajwa to prevail upon their partners in the alliance government to stop spending recklessly on self promotion and publcity and instead use that money to provide immediate relief to hapless flood victims.

They demand that a compensation of Rs Rs. 50,000 per acre to paddy growers, Rs 20, 000 to every farm labourer, Rs 5000 per farmer as emergency fodder allowance and Rs One lakh per cattle for the death of livestock.

The protesting Youth Akalis demanded that in case of death through floods Rs 25 lakh be paid as relief and compensation to the aggrieved family. “The government is directly responsible for these deaths as these have been caused through sheer governmental neglect and total administrative failure.”

Apart from Mr Jhinjher, prominent among those who led the march were S. Tejinder Singh Nijjer, S. Akashdeep Singh Middukhera, Lappy Enna Khera, S. Prabhjot Singh Dhaliwal, Taji Fazilka, S. Manjit Singh Malakpur, S. Manveer Singh Wadala, S. Ravinder Singh Khera, S. Sukhjit Singh Mahala, S. Mandeep Singh Manna, S. Akashdeep Singh Bhathal, Ramandeep Singh Thiara, S. Varinder Singh Sandhu, S. Gurpreet Singh Chahal, Jaggi Doraha, S. Rakhwinder Singh Gabaria, S. Gurmeet Singh Sonu Cheema and Honey Tonsa Balachaur.
