Lucknow, October 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Uttar Pradesh government has doubled the number of scholarship seats for children from farming families pursuing higher education in agriculture and raised the annual financial assistance from ₹36,000 to ₹60,000 under the Chief Minister’s Farmers’ Scholarship Scheme.

The Mukhyamantri Krishak Chhatravritti Yojana, administered by the State Agricultural Produce Market Board, or Mandi Parishad, aims to support meritorious students from farming and agricultural labourer families and help them access higher education.

Under the revised provisions, 90 students at each agricultural university or institute will receive scholarships annually, up from 45 earlier. At each agricultural college, the number of beneficiaries will increase from 15 to 30. Each selected student will now receive ₹60,000 a year, providing an additional ₹24,000 in annual support.

The scheme currently covers eligible students enrolled at 11 agricultural universities and institutes and 61 agricultural colleges across the state. The expanded assistance is expected to help students meet education-related expenses and encourage more young people from farming backgrounds to pursue specialised studies.

The revised framework also increases the number of scholarships across courses. For undergraduate agriculture programmes at universities and institutions, the number of slots has risen from 25 to 50, while those for undergraduate Home Science courses have increased from six to 12.

For postgraduate agriculture courses, the number of slots has doubled from 10 to 20, and for postgraduate Home Science courses, from four to eight. At agricultural colleges, undergraduate scholarship slots have increased from 10 to 20 and postgraduate slots from five to 10.

The scheme also covers eligible students pursuing horticulture, forestry, animal husbandry and related disciplines.

According to the Mandi Parishad, 6,454 students received scholarships worth approximately ₹22.90 crore between the 2017-18 and 2025-26 financial years.

Mandi Parishad Director Jitendra Pratap Singh credited the Uttar Pradesh government with expanding educational opportunities for students from agricultural backgrounds.
