Unlike Akalis, Congress does not believe in election time cosmetic relief: Preneet Kaur

Nabha (Patiala), May 6, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Former minister of state for external affairs Ms Preneet Kaur today said that unlike the Akalis, the Congress did not believe in last minute election time cosmetic relief to the people by organizing sangat-darshans. Instead, she said, the Congress government started the process of providing relief to people right from the moment it took over.

Addressing a series of public meetings in this historic city today, Ms Kaur pointed out, the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh announced to provide loan waiver to the farmers in his first cabinet meeting. “We are just two years into the government and we have already distributed thousands of crores of rupees as relief to the debt ridden farmers”, she pointed out, while adding, more relief was likely to come.

The Congress candidate from Patiala parliamentary constituency said, as the economic condition of the state had started improving, thanks to various measures taken by the Chief Minister, more relief will be provided not only to the farmers, but also to the landless farm labourers and other needy people.

The three-time Patiala MP alleged that the Akalis had left behind a mess they created during their ten years rule. “They have not only ruined the economy, but have subverted the whole system of governance”, she said, while adding, it took lot of time, efforts and energy for this government, first to set things in order and then bring back the economy on the tracks.

She expressed confidence that in another three years, Punjab will see complete revival of its economy and all the sectors particularly the agriculture and industry were being paid special attention. She alleged that thanks to the hostile approach of the Akalis, the industries had either shut down or shifted to other parts of the country.

“But thankfully they have started looking back towards Punjab again and they have started returning”, she said, adding, a number of industrial units in the area, which had shut down earlier were reopening and had resumed operations.
