The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asserted Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann was directly responsible for the death of youth icon Sidhu Moosewala and that a case should be registered against him for violating the oath of office by releasing confidential information about the withdrawal of the security cover of Moosewala as well as other prominent personalities including the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takth Sahib and political leaders on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) portal.
A SAD delegation headed by its president Sukhbir Singh Badal met the Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit in this regard and also urged him to dismiss Bhagwant Mann from office. “The chief minister does not deserve to stay in office for even one minute more”, the SAD president quipped while demanding a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the killing of Moosewala. He said this was necessary as Punjabis did not have any faith in the AAP government and that the family of the deceased had also made this request.
The SAD President, who was accompanied by senior leaders including Balwinder Singh Bhundur, Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, also requested the Governor to direct the government to order a judicial probe into the lapses committed in ordering withdrawal of security cover of prominent personalities. The delegation said this was done unilaterally by the chief minister without holding a meeting of the State’s security review committee. It also demanded that officers responsible for this lapse should be proceeded against.
The delegation brought it to the notice of the Governor that the AAP government was taking the State back into the dark days of anarchy. It said security should be granted on threat perception alone and should not be politicized. It said in direct contrast the chief minister had thrown all rules and regulations aside and was taking decisions on security cover on his whims and fancies.
“We have seen the security cover of Sidhu Moosewala as well as other prominent personalities who are under grave threat being withdrawn even as eighty Punjab Police personnel have been deputed to secure Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal”. The delegation also pointed out that similarly four security vehicles had been granted to AAP mp Raghav Chadha arbitrarily.
Talking to newsmen after meeting the Governor, Mr Sukhbir Badal said youth icon Moosewala would not have been lost but for the wrong decisions of the AAP government. He said the chief minister had not only taken a unilateral decision to withdraw Moosewala’s security but had also advertised this fact on the AAP face book page by asserting that this was a victory against VVIP culture. “This kind of cheap politics is condemnable”.
Mr Badal said the SAD delegation had informed the Governor that never before had such incidents like an RPG rocket launcher attack on the Intelligence Headquarters of the Punjab Police at Mohali occurred in the history of the State.
He said communal harmony had also been disturbed during AAP rule with Hindu-Sikh clashes taking place for the first time ever. “We are even witnessing the murder of police officers which was unheard of earlier and use of sophisticated weapons like the AN -94 which was used to attack Moosewala”.
The SAD President also requested the Governor to take note of the irresponsible statement of the Punjab DGP who had parroted a tweet released half an hour before the police officer’s press conference. “It is clear that Raghav Chadha is even usurping the powers of the DGP which is creating problems in its command structure”.
The SAD delegation apprised the Governor that Punjab was being pushed into a state of anarchy after formation of the AAP government with the State coming in the grip of gang-wars, terror attacks, brutal day light murders, kidnappings and dacoities on an everyday basis. It said since Punjab was a border state preserving its law and order was of paramount importance to the nation and the Governor to take remedial steps to make Punjabis secure and ensure the State did not slip into disarray.
