SAD will move court against police officials responsible for illegal FIR against me: Romana

Chandigarh, Nov 6, 2023 (Yes Punjab News)
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary Parambans Singh Romana today said with the Mohali Distt court giving its verdict that imposition of Section 468 IPC in the cyber crime FIR filed against him was actuated by political vendetta, the party would move the court against all police officials who were responsible for filing this illegal FIR and hold them accountable for the same.

The SAD general secretary in his maiden press conference after being awarded bail in a cyber crime case said “it is clear that I was subject to an 8 PM FIR on the orders of chief minister Bhagwant Mann after 8 pm”.

He said he as well as the SAD would not be deterred by such intimidation and would resolutely continue to speak against the injustice being meted out by the Khas Aadmi Party on each and every section of society.

Explaining the issue, Mr Romana said section 468 IPC was inserted in the FIR filed against him on October 26 as ‘forgery for the purpose of cheating’ is a non-bailable offence.

“This was done despite the fact that the video of Kanwar Grewal, which formed the basis of the FIR, was in circulation since the last eight years and is even now available on YouTube”. He said the court had rightfully asserted that the allegations under section 468 IPC were not fulfilled and that the case should not have attracted this section.

Asserting that the court had upheld SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal’s assertion that he had been targeted as part of a political vendetta exercise, Mr Romana said “the very fact that the FIR was registered within forty minutes of a complaint filed by an Inspector of the cyber crime cell speaks volumes on the investigation done by the cell”.

He said the video in question had been shared by thousands of persons including several Congress leaders but a case had been registered against him only.

Mr Romana said try as it might, the AAP government would not succeed in intimidating him. He said the AAP government was desperate to divert attention from its failures be it the issue of drugs, illegal mining by its legislators or suppression of the voice of the unemployed youth.

“I will continue to speak up for free speech and raise all issues of public importance with renewed vigour and strength”. He also called for appropriate action in the complaint filed against the chief minister at the Mataur police station for posting objectionable and doctored videos on his social media handle.
