Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been included in Saurashtra’s 16-member squad for their Ranji Trophy 2026-27 opening match against Chhattisgarh, with experienced left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat set to continue as captain.
Jadeja joins the squad after featuring in India’s 2-1 ODI series victory over the West Indies. He claimed two wickets in two matches but did not get an opportunity to bat.
The Ranji Trophy campaign will give Jadeja an opportunity to regain his red-ball rhythm ahead of India’s two-Test tour of New Zealand. The Tests are scheduled to be played in Wellington from November 19 to 23 and in Christchurch from November 27 to December 1.
The 92nd edition of India’s premier domestic red-ball tournament begins on October 11. Saurashtra, former champions who won the title under Unadkat in 2019-20 and 2022-23, have been placed in Elite Group B alongside Andhra, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Hyderabad, Karnataka, Punjab and Tripura.
Saurashtra will open their campaign against Chhattisgarh at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. The team has retained 14 players from last season’s squad, despite suffering an early group-stage exit in the 2025-26 edition.
Unadkat heads into the domestic season after an impressive stint with Sussex, where he claimed 28 wickets in seven matches at an average of 22.21. His performances included a five-wicket haul of 5-32 against Hampshire and two four-wicket hauls.
The selection committee has included two new faces in pacer Neel Pandya and all-rounder Arth Yadav. Harvik Desai will handle wicketkeeping duties, while the batting line-up features experienced players Arpit Vasavada, Chirag Jani and Jay Gohil.
Unadkat will lead the pace attack alongside left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya. Experienced left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja has moved to Chhattisgarh, leaving Parth Bhut with greater responsibility in the spin department.
