Mumbai, October 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has been served a public legal notice by production company Eclatant Films Private Limited, which is seeking recovery of ₹29.67 crore in alleged outstanding dues and has warned industry stakeholders against entering into transactions involving projects covered by an agreement with him without its written permission.
The company has claimed that Varma owes ₹29,67,64,000, including ₹11,38,92,000 in interest. According to the notice, a legal demand was sent to the filmmaker on October 15, seeking payment of the entire amount by October 30, 2026.
Eclatant Films has linked the claim to an agreement dated April 10, 2010, which it says was also recognised by an order of the Bombay High Court on April 17, 2013.
The public notice warns that if the dues are not cleared by the deadline, the company may exercise its legal rights over films and projects covered by the agreement. These rights, according to the notice, include interests in shares, revenue, ownership and exploitation of the projects.
The company has also stated that Varma is required to obtain its written No-Objection Certificate (NOC) before undertaking film production, co-production, direction or writing activities, or entering into arrangements with third parties, as stipulated under the agreement.
Eclatant Films has specifically cautioned producers, distributors, broadcasters and OTT platforms against buying, licensing, distributing, broadcasting or streaming rights to projects covered by the agreement without first obtaining its written clearance. It has warned that parties proceeding without an NOC could face legal action, including injunctions and recovery proceedings.
Varma has not publicly responded to the notice so far. The claims and the company’s asserted rights remain subject to the terms of the agreement and any applicable legal proceedings.
The filmmaker is currently associated with Police Company, which is set to star Harshvardhan Rane in the lead role.
