Raghav Chadha presents BJP’s Report Card in Parliament with a set of 25 promises it failed to fulfill

New Delhi, Dec 6, 2023 (Yes Punjab News)
In a scathing critique of the Centre’s economic policies, AAP MP Raghav Chadha took the central government to task for its unfulfilled promise in the Rajya Sabha today. Addressing the Rajya Sabha during a brief discussion on the country’s economic situation, Chadha highlighted the government’s failure to uphold its commitment to “ache din,” the slogan that propelled it to power in 2014 but has since been absent from its discourse. Drawing attention to the BJP’s pledge to forge a “New India” by “Amrit Kaal 2022,” Chadha underscored the imminent arrival of 2024 and urged the government to make strides in fulfilling its commitments.

He proceeded to enumerate 25 promises made by the BJP that remain unmet to date. Employing a fact-check approach, Chadha initiated his critique by referencing the unfulfilled promise of achieving a 5 Trillion Dollar economy by 2022, a cornerstone of the BJP’s economic agenda. When questioning the government on its housing-related promises, in a lighter vein, Chadha mentioned that even MPs homes were being snatched away.

The 25 promises of the BJP that he chose to hold the government accountable on were:

1. USD 5 trillion economy:
Chadha asked when would the government achieve this target and said that the
country would achieve this target

2. Bank account, life insurance, accident insurance, pension and retirement plan for every Indian
The 2022 Economic Survey indicates that merely 3 out of 100 individuals in India possess a Life Insurance Policy, and only 1 out of 100 hold a non-life insurance policy, as per official statistics. He asked if the government has ever cared to check on the accounts created through Jan Dhan Yojana.

3. Doubling of farmers’ income
The government doesn’t even mention this promise anymore, on the contrary, they
have doubled the debt of every farmer.

4. Housing
Let alone offer a house to aam admi, even MPs houses are being snatched today

5. Toilet access
Had this been completed, ODF in India wouldn’t have increased like it has, neither would the NFHS highlight 20% Indian households lack toilet facility or lack of water supply to existing ones.

6. 27X7 electricity supply
Except for Kejriwal government, not a single state provides round-the-clock electricity. I challenge the Ministers to show if there’s even one state where electricity is provided round the clock.

7. LPG cylinder for every household
Prices increased instead, subsidy was withdrawn, and Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries
are unable to afford a refill

8. Tap water connection
More than 40% rural households don’t have a tap water supply till date. There’s
neither a tap nor water.

9. Making India malnutrition-free

India’s child malnutrition and hunger-related numbers are worrying. 74% of Indians
can’t afford nutritious meals.

10. Broadband internet at Panchayat level
The BJP should survey its promise – 65% of India resides in villages, but internet is
yet to reach every rural corner

11. 100% digital literacy
According to NSO, the government isn’t even halfway there.

12. Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train
Kaha tha bullet train mein saer karayenge, lekin tareek nahin batayenge

13. Accident-free, zero fatalities in railway operations
This year, we witnessed horrifying train accidents that shook our conscience (esp.
Balasore)

14. Doubling the growth of the manufacturing sector
Let alone achieve 14% growth, we’re stuck at 5-6% of growth in the sector

15. MedTech zones for medical tourism
Only promise, no delivery

16. 100+ tourist destinations in underdeveloped regions
Only promise, no delivery

17. 10 new innovation districts for entrepreneurs and designers
Only promise, no delivery

18. Eradication of manual scavenging
339 people died while cleaning sewers, septic tanks in last 5 years

19. 15% increase in the proportion of formally skilled labour
The number is around 5% today; while in UK it is 68%, Germany 75%, USA it is
52%, Japan 80%, Korea 96%

20. Jobs: 2-3Mn in healthcare, 40Mn through tourism, 5Mn through mines and minerals
Jobs are being lost today rather than being created

21. Ban on single-use plastic
Government has not been able to implement this

22. 10% reduction in crude oil and gas imports
Crude oil import bill has doubled, imports increased

23. Doubling the length of national highways to 2 lakh KM
As of 30 November 2022, the total length of National Highways in the country was 1,44,634 km.

24. No stubble burning Entire North India is a gas chamber these days

25. Doctor population ratio of 1:1400, Nurse to population ratio of at least 1:500
Be it PHCs or CHCs, there’s a shortage
