During this Lok Adalat, hearings were conducted for 35 cases, out of which 20 cases were received on the spot. Of these, 50 percent of the cases were disposed of right on the spot. On this occasion, the Chairperson said that the Women’s Commission is holding Lok Adalats in every district to resolve the problems faced by women. She added that not every aggrieved woman can reach the Women’s Commission office located in Mohali. To help out distressed women, the commission is holding district level lok adalats.

Many problems are being resolved on the spot. She said that while action is ensured against the guilty, efforts are also being made to find a meaningful solution to matrimonial disputes so that matters do not reach divorce.

She stated that any aggrieved woman can approach the Commission. Apart from this, a complaint can also be submitted at the relevant district’s women’s cell and a copy sent to the Commission, to ensure that the Commission takes prompt action on the complaint.

She informed that today cases related to marital issues, dowry harassment, exploitation of girls and women, live-in relationships, domestic violence, etc., had come up for hearing.

On this occasion, she appealed society not to let small matters spoil relationships and to contribute towards creating a good society by understanding the importance of the family unit. During the hearings, she also issued strict instructions to the police department to complete investigations as quickly as possible in various cases.

Senior officials from the civil and police administration were also present on this occasion.
