The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has registered a criminal case against Nirmal Singh Superintendent, Death and Birth Certificate Record Branch, in Civil Surgeon office, now posted in Death and Birth Branch, in Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, and accused Harjinder Singh Senior Assistant, Death and Birth Certificate Record Branch, in Civil Surgeon office Jalandhar on charges of tampering with records of registers pertaining to Phillaur tehsil. In this regard the above said accused Superintendent has been arrested.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said a FIR no. 15 dated 21-08-2018 had already been registered against both the said accused under section 7, 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act and 120-B of IPC in Police Station, Vigilance Bureau Range Jalandhar.
During the investigation of the said case, it was found that Nirmal Singh Superintendent and Thomas Masih (Agent), had tempered with in birth and death record pertaining to village Kala Bahiyan and the old pages in the register were pulled out and replaced by new entries.
Apart from this, the old pages were removed from the registers of village Varyana, village Sohalpur, village Talwandi Sanghera, village Kahlwan, village Talwandi Bharre and village Tahli Sahib and new pages were inserted in their places with wrong entries in the registers of births and deaths besides several entries have been distorted.
In this way, it was found that the said Nirmal Singh Superintendent and Harjinder Singh Senior Assistant have made wrong entries in an illegal manner and removed the old pages from the registers and replaced them with new ones by taking lakhs of rupees as bribe in exchange for making forged certificates.
In this regard, the VB, after investigation, has registered a case number 06 dated 01-03-2023 against the said accused Nirmal Singh Superintendent and Harjinder Singh Senior Assistant under sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B, of IPC and section 7, 13(1)(a), 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station Vigilance Bureau Range Jalandhar. The accused Nirmal Singh Superintendent has been arrested while the teams have been formed to arrest the absconding accused Harjinder Singh in this case.
Pertinently, the said accused Nirmal Singh Superintendent, Harjinder Singh Senior Assistant and Thomas Masih (Agent) were already nabbed red-handed on 21-08-2018 for accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000. In this regard, a FIR no. 15 dated 21-08-2018 had already been registered in VB Police Station Jalandhar under section 7, 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120-B of IPC against the above mentioned accused.
