In a heart-rending incident that has left an entire neighbourhood in shock, four members of a family—including a couple and their two young daughters—were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their residence in Harman Nagar here on Thursday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Amandeep Singh alias Mahi Sodhi (42), his wife Jasveer Kaur (40), and their minor daughters Manveer Kaur (10) and Parmeet Kaur (6). Preliminary investigation suggests that Amandeep Singh allegedly shot his wife and children before turning the weapon on himself.
Amandeep Singh, a builder and financer by profession, had recently ventured into a new business and was preparing to open a salon in the city—an endeavour that symbolised fresh hopes for the family, now tragically extinguished.
The incident came to light when the housemaid arrived in the morning and found the doors locked from inside. After repeated attempts to get a response failed, she alerted neighbours and the tenant residing on the first floor. The door was eventually forced open, revealing a gruesome scene with all four bodies lying inside the house in pools of blood.
Senior police officials, including Bhupinder Singh, rushed to the spot. The SSP said that a detailed investigation is underway, with CCTV footage being examined and statements of neighbours and other relevant persons recorded.
A forensic team has also been deployed to thoroughly probe the case from every possible angle. He said that the police are examining the case from all possible angles, including whether it is a case of murder followed by suicide or if any foul play is involved.
The tragic deaths have plunged the locality into mourning, with residents struggling to comprehend how a seemingly normal family met such a devastating end.
