The Punjab Government has decided to allow the shops in the state to remain open for all 365 days of the year and 24 hours a day.
According to the new decision, there would be no restriction on opening of shops at any time. Any shopkeeper would now be free to open and close his shop at a time convenient to him and as decided by him.
This means that it would now not be binding on shopkeepers to keep their shops closed even on Sundays or any other day and there would be no time limit when to open or when to close the shop.
This announcement was made by Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal during his budget speech. He termed it as a progressive decision of the Congress government which he said would help the labour class.
