Chandigarh, October 24, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab Government has released ₹65.20 crore in financial assistance to 12,784 beneficiaries under the Ashirwad Scheme during the current financial year 2026-27, providing support to economically weaker and marginalised families for the marriages of their daughters.

Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said the scheme reflects the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government’s commitment to ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent eligible families from arranging dignified marriages for their daughters.

Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance of ₹51,000 for a daughter’s marriage. Up to two daughters from the same family can avail themselves of the benefit, the minister said.

Sharing the category-wise figures, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that 8,774 beneficiaries from the Scheduled Caste category had received ₹44.75 crore, while 4,010 beneficiaries belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Backward Classes had received ₹20.45 crore during the current financial year.

She further said that applications from an additional 9,183 Scheduled Caste beneficiaries and 4,342 beneficiaries belonging to Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections were being processed for the release of financial assistance.

The minister explained that assistance under the Ashirwad Scheme is transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to promote transparency and ensure efficient and timely delivery of benefits.

Dr. Baljit Kaur directed district and departmental officials to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left out of the scheme. She instructed officials to expedite the verification and processing of applications so that eligible families receive assistance without unnecessary delays.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to public welfare, the minister said the Punjab Government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was working to support all sections of society through people-centric initiatives. She added that such schemes contribute to the vision of a ‘Rangla Punjab’ in which every family has access to dignity, support and opportunities for a better future.
