Punjab Govt to formulate act against singers and artists promoting drugs: Channi

The Punjab Government would celebrate 550th Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji as per Sikh Rehat Maryada in which Nanak Nam Leva organisations from across the world would be involved. Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi said this after taking over charge of the Tourism & Cultrural Affairs Department.

Soon after taking over the charge of the department, Mr. Channi held a meeting with the senior officers of the department and gave directions to contact Nanak Nam Leva Organisations and make them part of the 550th Parkash Purb celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

He also said that the officers and employees should not regard this work pertaining to these celebrations as duty but as ‘SEWA’. He said that world renowned personalities from social and religious spheres would be participating in these celebrations.

A major decision was taken in the meeting was that the Punjab Government land related to tourism or heritage promotion would not be sold. The minister directed the officials to present a report to promote tourism and heritage on such sites.

The Minister also took a serious note of the singers and artists promoting drugs and asked the officials to prepare a draft of an act to take stringent action against such people. He also talked to the ACS Home on phone regarding this and asked Principle Secretary Tourism and Cultural Affairs to fix a meeting with the officials of the home department regarding this.

Others prominent present in the meeting included Vikas Partap Singh Principle Secretary Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Malwinder Singh Jaggi Director Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Lakhmir Singh Joint Director Cultural Affairs, Sanjeev Kumar Executive Director PHTPB, Anuprita Johal Deputy Secretary Tourism and other senior officials of the department.
