Punjab Govt has not taken back decision to dissolve Panchayats willingly: Sunil Jakhar

Chandigarh, September 1, 2023 (Yes Punjab News)
Castigating the state government for taking the unfathomable decision of dissolving panchayats – the pillars of our democracy- the Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar on Friday demanded that the Chief Minister Mann must admit this grave mistake and apologise to the people of Punjab for this democratic and anti-institutions step.

This decision could not have never been arrived at by the Bureaucracy who are now being blamed to shift the blame, Jakhar said adding that it is crystal clear that nobody below the Chief Minister could have approved it.

Oh yes, the decision might have come to the Punjab IAS officers now suspended from the Super Chief Minister from Delhi, Jakhar quipped alleging that these searing gaffes are direct consequence of callous abdication of the constitutional responsibilty enjoined upon an elected Chief Minister.

Demanding immediate revocation of the August 11 notification, Jakhar said the curtailment of financial powers of Panchayats is a direct assault on their autonomy of this avowed institution of critical importance in our national progress and prosperity.

Questioning the Chief Minister, Jakhar asked ,”Was this decision not discussed in the Cabinet Meeting. Was the CM not in know of this decision. Was this decision taken solely by the Bureaucracy. If yes, that would mean there is no political leadership in state, Jakhar said reiterating his charge that Punjab today is staring at the ignominy of being a rudderless state which is not acceptable.

Rejecting all efforts by the Minister in charge, Jakhar said one look at the agenda passed at the Cabinet Meeting dated July 29, 2023 makes all justifications fall flat on their face. State Government on that very day also resolved for special Girdawaris to assess flood loss, he underlined adding that this government is compounding lies, lies and lies.

Thanking the Hon’ble Court for sparing the state government the shame of being rebuked for coming up with this illogical and unimaginable decision at the behest of lies and false justifications, Jakhar said that the saving grace was that the state government realised its fault and accepted to withdraw the notification. Bhagwant Mann government has been forced to retreat, they have not taken it back willingly, Jakhar pointed out.
