Canadian expert Dr Sukhinder Kaur Cheema deliberates on Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Health

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in collaboration with the Nutrition Society of India (NSI-Ludhiana Chapter), organized an enlightening lecture on “Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Health: From Pregnancy through Ageing” in College of Community Science, PAU.

The lecture was delivered by the distinguished Professor Dr Sukhinder Kaur Cheema from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada and attended by NSI members, faculty and postgraduate students of College of Community Science.

Dr Cheema provided a comprehensive overview of the significant role Omega-3 fatty acids played in promoting health from prenatal development to healthy ageing.

The lecture was followed by an interactive session where attendees had the opportunity to engage with Dr Cheema, asking questions and discussing various aspects of nutritional science. This interaction enriched the learning experience, providing deeper insights and practical applications.

Dr Shyam Mayengbam, Assistant Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada also shared his experiences on this vital topic.

A total of 10 undergraduate students from Memorial University visited the Experiential Learning Unit of the Department of Food and Nutrition, PAU and interacted with ELP students. Earlier, a day before, the team also visited the Verka Milk Plant, Ludhiana.

Dr Kiran Bains, Dean, College of Community Science, PAU, expressed that consumption of Omega-3 fatty acids in diet was very important as it could play a significant role in preventing metabolic diseases.
