The Punjab Government has credited ₹11,767.46 crore to the bank accounts of 2,92,814 farmers for paddy procured during the ongoing procurement season, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said on Thursday.
Reviewing the procurement process at a meeting with senior departmental officials, Kataruchak said the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government remained committed to protecting farmers’ interests and ensuring timely payments for their produce.
The minister was informed that, till late Wednesday evening, a total of 56.08 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of paddy had arrived in mandis across the state. Of this, 54.61 LMT had been procured, while 34.28 LMT had been lifted. The lifting percentage for the last 72 hours stood at 83 per cent, according to the department.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to procuring every grain produced by Punjab’s farmers, Kataruchak interacted with District Food Supply Controllers (DFSCs) through video conferencing and directed them to ensure that no bogus purchases took place and that paddy brought from outside Punjab was not allowed into the state’s mandis.
The minister also reviewed the distribution of ration kits and was informed that 29 lakh kits had been distributed during the second quarter. He instructed officials to maintain quality and transparency throughout the distribution process.
