Proud moment for Punjab as two girl cadets of Mai Bhago AFPI get commission as Flying Officers

Under the visionary leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls, Mohali, added another feather in its cap as two alumni of the Institute named Sehajpreet Kaur and Komalpreet Kaur were commissioned as Flying Officers from the Air Force Academy, Dundigal, Hyderabad on Saturday.

Pertinently, Flying Officer Sehajpreet Kaur, who will be joining the Flying Transport Branch, is the daughter of a serving Subedar Major of the Indian Army and hails from Amritsar district. She performed creditably at the Academy, winning the Best Cadet Award in Officer Like Qualities and General Studies. Likewise, Flying Officer Komalpreet Kaur’s father is serving in Punjab Police and belongs to Gurdaspur district. She will be joining the Navigation Branch of the Air Force.

Mai Bhago AFPI is a unique initiative of the Punjab Government under the Department of Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training, enabling girls from Punjab to become commissioned officers in the Armed Forces. The Institute is a fully residential campus with state of the art infrastructure and the only one of its kind in the country. The girls here are trained to compete at the national level with a high degree of assurance to crack the AFCAT and CDS written examinations as also the SSB.

The Director of the Institute, Maj Gen Jasbir Singh Sandhu, AVSM (Retd.) informed that so far 23 Lady Cadets have joined various Armed Forces Training Academies, out of which 13 have been commissioned as Officers.
