The Museum of Social History of Rural Punjab, housed at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has swiftly become a focal point for historians, students, and enthusiasts alike. Since its official recognition by the state government on World Tourism Day, September 27, 2022, with a dedicated spot on Punjab Tourism’s website, visitors ranging from farmers, students, NRIs, and cultural aficionados from across states have been flocking to witness the hidden historical treasures of rural Punjab.
PAU Vice Chancellor, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal while drawing attention to the stellar International Agricultural Museums Workshop, hosted by PAU earlier this year, said that it’s a matter of pride that the year 2023 marks the Diamond Jubilee year of PAU and the sheer volume of visitors to the museum is overwhelming, thus proving that the public is sensitized towards the idea of taking a peep into Punjab’s history and culture.
Dr Tejinder Singh Riar, Additional Director of Communication at PAU, who spearheaded the museum’s refurbishment to resurrect its former allure said that the museum encapsulates the very essence of Punjabi culture, offering a captivating glimpse into the heart of rural Punjab.
“Remarkably, Punjab Agricultural University stands as the sole institution in the country housing such a culturally immersive museum”, he stated while urging people to discover the vibrant tapestry of Punjab’s heritage at this remarkable site.
