Ms Manpreet Kaur, a Ph.D student of the Department of Biochemistry, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been invited as a short term scholar for six months by the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA. She will research the stability of food lipids in the lab of Dr Eric A. Decker, Head, Department of Food Science, University of Massachusetts. Dr Decker is actively conducting research to characterize mechanisms of lipid oxidative and health implications of bioactive lipids. He has over 440 publications to his credit and is cited as one of the most highly cited scientists in agriculture.
Ms Manpreet Kaur is working under the Prime Minister Research Fellowship (initiative of FICCI and SERB) in collaboration with Industry partner ‘Chemical Resourses, Panchkula’ on the topic “Biochemical Characterization of Euryhaline Microalgal Strains for Bioactive Metabolites” under the guidance of Dr Surekha Bhatia, Senior Biochemist, Department of Processing and Food Engineering. She has completed the course work with 8.58 OCPA and bagged GS Sidhu Gold Medal in M.Sc. Biochemistry for securing the highest OCPA. She has also qualified CSIR-NET-JRF and GATE.
Dr Sandeep Bains, Dean, Postgraduate Studies and Dr Manjeet Kaur Sangha, Principal Biochemist-cum-Head of the department, congratulated the PAU student for her achievement.
