The ongoing ₹82-crore redevelopment and beautification of the historic Mata Shri Kali Devi Temple in Patiala is progressing rapidly, with around 35 per cent of the work already completed, Punjab Roadways (PRTC) Chairman Advocate Harpal Juneja said on Saturday.
Juneja, accompanied by members of the Temple Advisory Management Committee, briefed representatives of the Aggarwal Samaj Sabha and Bahawalpur Samaj, who visited the temple to inspect the ongoing construction and redevelopment works.
Temple to Be Dedicated to Devotees by September
Speaking on the occasion, Juneja said the redevelopment project was announced by Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at an estimated cost of ₹82 crore.
He said construction works worth nearly ₹15 crore have already been executed and approximately 35 per cent of the overall project has been completed.
Expressing confidence over the pace of work, Juneja said the redeveloped temple complex is expected to be dedicated to devotees by September, subject to the completion schedule.
Modern Facilities Planned
Members of the Temple Advisory Management Committee, including CA Ajay Alipuria, Dr Raj Kumar Gupta and Sanjay Singla, also shared details of the project with the visiting delegation.
According to the committee, the redeveloped temple complex will feature:
- Three main entrance gates for devotees.
- A redesigned parikrama around the sacred pond.
- Light-and-sound shows based on Hindu deities and religious themes.
- Modern infrastructure aimed at enhancing the experience of pilgrims visiting the shrine.
Hindu Organisations Appreciate Government Initiative
Representatives of the Aggarwal Samaj Sabha and Bahawalpur Samaj appreciated the scale of the redevelopment work and thanked the Punjab Government for undertaking the project.
Among those who spoke on the occasion were Pawan Goyal, Sohinder Kansal, Green Man Awardee Bhagwan Dass Juneja and Bahawalpur Samaj president Yashpal Kakkar.
They said the construction of a modern temple complex reflects the government’s recognition of the sentiments of the Hindu community and thanked Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for initiating the project.
Several members of both organisations, along with local community representatives, were present during the visit.
Juneja has been organising similar visits for representatives of various Hindu organisations to showcase the progress of the redevelopment project.
