Salute To Sanjeev Arora’s Courage,He Chose Jail Over Joining BJP: Arvind Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal Former Delhi CM 5 and AAP

New Delhi, May 10, 2026(Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has declared the arrest of Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora in a false case as an attack on Punjab’s trust, development and future. As the Enforcement Directorate (ED) action intensified, AAP leaders led by National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia hailed Sanjeev Arora for refusing to join BJP despite pressure, while praising him as a key face of Punjab’s industrial and urban transformation push.

AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal took to ‘X’ and wrote, “A person’s true character is revealed during difficult times. Sanjeev Arora chose to go to jail rather than join BJP. Salute to Sanjeev Arora’s courage.”

Meanwhile, senior AAP leader and Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia stated, “Sanjeev Arora is a leader who is not only honest and hardworking, but also has a clear vision, deep understanding and a passion for change for Punjab. After becoming a minister, the seriousness and speed with which he worked to bring industrial investment to Punjab is being discussed everywhere today. Ask any entrepreneur in Punjab, and you will hardly find anyone who does not praise Sanjeev Arora’s industrial policy and his way of working.”

Highlighting Sanjeev Arora’s urban development initiatives, he emphasised, “He began large scale work to make cities clean and well organised. He continuously worked towards illuminating cities with street lights, organising the tangled network of electricity wires spread across roads and streets, and building modern urban infrastructure. Recently, the responsibility of implementing Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s ambitious scheme to underground exposed electricity wires spread across villages and fields was also being carried out by Sanjeev Arora with complete dedication and commitment.”

Targeting BJP over the arrest, Manish Sisodia asserted, “When BJP arrests such a hardworking, result oriented and visionary leader in false cases, then it no longer remains a matter of merely harassing one leader. It becomes a betrayal of the trust of Punjab’s people, Punjab’s development and Punjab’s future. And Punjabis know how to teach a lesson not only to those who betray them, but even to those who betray others.”

IPL 2026: Inglis makes 85 as LSG reach 203/8 despite a fightback from CSK bowlers

Josh Inglis cricket

Chennai, May 10, 2026

Josh Inglis smashed a blistering 85 off just 33 balls to power Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to 203/8 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

The Australian wicketkeeper-batter dominated the Power-play with a flurry of strokes, leading to ten fours and six maximums coming off his blade, and ensured LSG made the most of the fielding restrictions in the power-play, where they amassed 91 runs – their highest score in the six-over phase in this season.

But LSG’s momentum dipped once the field spread, as CSK’s bowlers clawed their way back. Noor Ahmad picked 1-24, while Jamie Overton’s 3-36 further kept the scoring rate in check. Despite the slowdown in the middle overs, Shahbaz Ahmed’s late cameo of 43 not out off 25 balls, capped by a six off the final delivery, lifted LSG past the 200-run mark.

With a solid total on board, LSG have set themselves up for a strong chance to dictate terms in the second half of the game. Pushed into batting first on the red soil pitch, Inglis set the tone from the opening over, as he lofted, swept, and hammered Akeal Hosein for two fours and a six.

Inglis continued to smash boundaries at will, with reverse scoops and pulls being the standout. Though Mitchell Marsh fell cheaply to Anshul Kamboj, Inglis raced to a 17-ball half-century and gave LSG their highest powerplay score of the season.

After Noor had Nicholas Pooran slog-sweeping to deep mid-wicket, Inglis eventually fell for 85 off 33 balls, caught by Sanju Samson while trying to paddle off Overton, who had Rishabh Pant chopping onto his stumps in the same over. Aiden Markram’s run-out added to LSG’s slide, and Akshat Raghuwanshi’s departure off Overton further dented their momentum.

From 91/1, LSG slipped to 154/6, but Shahbaz and Himmat Singh steadied the innings. Shahbaz, in particular, counter-attacked with inventive strokes, striking boundaries off Overton and Mukesh Choudhary. Though Kamboj castled Himmat to bring the 50-run stand to an end and Mohammed Shami was run out for a duck, Shahbaz launched the last ball of the innings over long-on for six to take LSG past 200.

Brief scores:

Lucknow Super Giants 203/8 in 20 overs (Josh Inglis 85, Shahbaz Ahmed 43 not out; Jamie Overton 3-36, Anshul Kamboj 2-47) against Chennai Super Kings.(Agency)

Saudi oil giant exports 7 mn barrels of oil a day via pipeline to skirt Hormuz

crude Qatar Energy Minister warns oil could touch $150

New Delhi, May 10, 2026

Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) president and CEO Amin H. Nasser said on Sunday that the oil giant’s East-West Pipeline has reached its maximum capacity of 7.0 million barrels of oil per day and is proving to be a crucial alternative to the Strait of Hormuz for ensuring energy supplies to world markets.

Aramco announced a 25 per cent increase in its quarterly profit as it increased exports via a pipeline that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz, after the Iran war stopped normal ship movement through the vital waterway.

The Saudi Arabian national oil company, which is the world’s top oil exporter, posted a net profit of $32.5 billion for the three months ending March 31, up from $26 billion in the same period last year.

“Aramco’s first-quarter performance reflects strong resilience and operational flexibility in a complex geopolitical environment. Our East-West Pipeline, which reached its maximum capacity of 7.0 million barrels of oil per day, has proven itself to be a critical supply artery, helping to mitigate the impact of a global energy shock and providing relief to customers affected by shipping constraints in the Strait of Hormuz,” said Aramco CEO Nasser.

CEO Amin Nasser warned of potential long-term oil market disruption lasting until 2027 if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.

Aramco is utilising its East-West pipeline to its maximum 7 million barrels-a-day capacity to bypass the closed Strait of Hormuz, transporting more crude to the Red Sea.

Profits have also jumped due to the surge in global oil prices, which have shot past the $100 per barrel mark.

CEO Amin Nasser warned that if trade remains curtailed, the market may not normalise until 2027. He added that about 1 billion barrels of oil have been lost from the market.

The Samref refinery in Yanbu faced an aerial strike, highlighting risks to the alternative export routes.

However, the company continues to provide substantial payouts to the state despite the volatile situation. It is manoeuvring through a severe regional crisis by redirecting exports via the Red Sea, which has acted as a critical lifeline.(Agency)

Joining J&K Police means becoming part of a legacy written in blood: L-G Sinha

Manoj-Sinha-Governor JK

Srinagar, May 10, 2026

Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that joining the Union Territory’s police service is not merely a career choice, but becoming part of a legacy written in blood.

The Lt Governor handed over appointment letters to newly recruited constables of the Jammu and Kashmir Police during a presentation ceremony at the Armed Police Complex in Zewan.

Around 4,000 recruits were selected through a transparent, merit-based process conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).

The Lieutenant Governor congratulated the new recruits and exhorted them to discharge their duties with absolute integrity, impartiality and unwavering commitment to national service.

“Joining the Jammu and Kashmir Police is not merely a career choice, but the acceptance of a legacy written in blood. I am confident that you will rise to the occasion and uphold the honour of this glorious force,” he said.

Paying tribute to the brave personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Lieutenant Governor said the peace and progress being witnessed in the Union Territory were the result of the unwavering resolve and sacrifices made by police personnel over the years.

“The Jammu and Kashmir Police stands as a testament to selfless service, duty, sacrifice and public trust. It is recognised as a benchmark of excellence in upholding the rule of law and carrying out counter-terrorism operations,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor also spoke about the changing nature of internal security and called for greater integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in policing operations. He urged the Jammu and Kashmir Police to prepare a roadmap to make the force future-ready.

He said the battlefield had expanded beyond physical borders and warned that emerging threats such as cybercrime, narco-terrorism, digital fraud and narrative warfare were increasingly being driven by technology rather than conventional weaponry.

The Lieutenant Governor reiterated that the complete eradication of terrorism in all its forms and ensuring public safety remained the top priority.

“Today, the world’s most dangerous criminals and terrorists do not always carry weapons; instead, they exploit code, data and encrypted networks to operate across borders. Cybercrime, narco-terrorism, digital fraud and narrative warfare are no longer threats of the distant future; they are the stark realities of the present. They are claiming lives, destroying livelihoods and eroding the trust upon which the stability of every system ultimately rests,” he said.

He also urged recruits across all wings of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to leverage robust digital infrastructure to effectively combat emerging threats.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo; Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat; Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti; Special DG Coordination PHQ S.J.M. Gillani; Commandant General Home Guards Abdul Ghani Mir; ADGP Headquarters M.K. Sinha; senior police and civil administration officials; and family members of the new recruits attended the appointment letter presentation ceremony.(Agency)

New Delhi, May 10, 2026

Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated India’s women’s recurve archery team after Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and Kumkum Mohod clinched a historic gold medal at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai on Sunday.

The Indian trio defeated hosts China 5-4 (28-26) in a tense shoot-off in the final to secure India’s first Archery World Cup gold medal since 2021. Praising the archers after the memorable victory, Mandaviya lauded the team’s resilience and fighting spirit.

“Golden Grit, Fearless Spirit, Podium Finish! Heartiest congratulations to Deepika, Ankita, and Kumkum for clinching Gold at the Archery World Cup Stage 2. Your brilliance and determination have made the entire nation proud,” Mandaviya wrote on X.

India began the final strongly, taking the opening set before the Chinese team fought back to level the contest and eventually force a shoot-out after the four regulation sets ended tied. With the pressure mounting in front of the home crowd, the Indian archers held their nerve in the decider. Veteran archer Deepika Kumari delivered the decisive final arrow, scoring a crucial nine to seal the gold medal for India.

The triumph capped an impressive campaign for the Indian women’s recurve side, who had earlier stunned record 10-time Olympic champions South Korea in the semi-finals to book their place in the title clash. The gold medal also marked India’s second podium finish at the Shanghai leg of the World Cup after Sahil Jadhav secured bronze in the men’s individual compound event on Saturday.

Sahil defeated Denmark’s Martin Damsbo 147-144 in the bronze medal match to claim his maiden World Cup medal. The Indian archer bounced back strongly after losing the opening set and won the next four sets to finish on the podium. Earlier in the competition, Sahil edged past Austria’s Nico Wiener in a quarter-final shoot-off before falling narrowly to reigning world champion Nicolas Girard in the semi-finals.

India’s medal hopes in Shanghai also remained alive later on Sunday with Simranjeet Kaur advancing to the semi-finals of the women’s recurve individual event, moving within one victory of her first individual World Cup medal.(Agency)

Rekha Gupta Delhi CM 3

New Delhi, May 10, 2026

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Sunday that the state government will continue supporting orphaned children even after they turn 18, offering assistance in college education and job search.

The launch of the Aftercare Scheme for Young Persons on the occasion of Mother’s Day reflects that the Delhi government’s belief that its responsibility does not end with providing shelter and protection to children.

“The aim is to ensure that every child and young adult gets the opportunity to build a safe, dignified and self-reliant future without ever feeling abandoned or unsupported,” Chief Minister Gupta added.

The Delhi government has earmarked Rs 3.5 crore for the scheme in the current financial year, a statement said.

Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive assistance for higher education and college studies, along with access to skill development and vocational training programmes.

“The Delhi government will also focus on connecting young people with internships and employment opportunities. Financial support and a monthly stipend have also been included in the scheme,” the statement added.

Marking the occasion of Mother’s Day, the Chief Minister visited the Village Cottage Home in Lajpat Nagar, where she spent time interacting warmly with children living at the facility run by the Women and Child Development Department.

During the interaction, Chief Minister Gupta shared details of the new aftercare initiative and said that Delhi currently has 88 Child Care Institutions, operated jointly by the government and various NGOs.

These institutions provide care, protection, education, rehabilitation and essential support to children up to the age of 18.

The Chief Minister also noted that Delhi already has two aftercare homes, one for boys and one for girls, where young adults above 18 are provided accommodation, food, educational support and other basic facilities to help them transition towards independent living.

Chief Minister Gupta said the Delhi government’s approach goes beyond institutional care and focuses on preparing children for life ahead.

“Children in care are being provided education, life skills training, vocational courses, career exposure, counselling, emotional and behavioural support, personality development, career guidance and rehabilitation planning so that they can confidently lead safe, healthy and dignified lives after becoming adults,” she added.

The Chief Minister said that every year nearly 150 to 200 young people leave childcare institutions after turning 18.

“While they receive support within institutions, many struggle once they step out, whether in continuing education, acquiring skills, finding employment, dealing with financial difficulties or starting an independent life,” she added.(Agency)

Air India tightens compliance drive amid mounting losses, over 1,000 staff terminated in 3 yrs

Air India Flight Arrives

New Delhi, May 10, 2026

Facing rising financial pressure and operational challenges, Air India has intensified its internal compliance and cost-control measures, with the airline terminating more than 1,000 employees over the last three years for ethical misconduct and policy violations.

The disclosure was made by Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson during a town hall meeting with employees.

Wilson reportedly told staff that the airline had taken action against employees involved in multiple violations, including misuse of the Employee Leisure Travel (ELT) system, smuggling items off aircraft and allowing excess baggage without proper charges.

The airline’s stricter enforcement comes at a time when it is battling significant financial stress.

The Air India Group, comprising Air India and Air India Express, is projected to have posted losses of more than Rs 22,000 crore in the financial year ended March 2026.

As part of its broader restructuring and turnaround efforts under the Tata Group, the airline has already initiated several cost-saving measures.

These include withholding annual salary increments for employees, reducing discretionary spending and cutting non-critical expenditure across departments.

The Tata-Group airline implementing these measures as government data also showed that Air India Express reported a significant jump in losses during the FY25.

In a written reply to Lok Sabha on December 11, 2025, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said that the airline, which had posted a Rs 1,63.12 crore loss in FY 2023-24, recorded a steep loss of Rs 58,32.37 crore in FY 2024-25.

This marks a major setback compared to its small profit of Rs 1,16.32 crore in FY 2022-23.

According to the data, several Indian carriers continued to face challenges, though some airlines managed to improve their performance.

Wilson also cautioned employees about the difficult business environment, particularly uncertainties linked to the Middle East situation, which continues to impact the aviation sector globally.

He reportedly warned that the current financial year could become “very, very difficult” if conditions in the region fail to improve.(Agency)

Murder of Democracy by Modi Govt”: AAP Hits Streets Across Punjab, Gheraos BJP Offices Over ED Action on Sanjeev Arora

Chandigarh, May 10, 2026(Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday launched statewide protests against the BJP-led Central Government, asserting that the BJP is misusing central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), CBI and Income Tax Department to target opposition leaders and destabilize non-BJP governments.

AAP leaders and karyakartas staged demonstrations and gheraoed BJP offices at district headquarters across Punjab, raising slogans against Narendra Modi and the BJP government over the ED action against Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora.

The protests were held in districts including Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Mohali and several other parts of Punjab, where AAP leaders noted that the BJP was using investigative agencies as political weapons to intimidate elected governments and silence opposition voices. Protesters carried placards, shouted slogans against the Modi government and accused the BJP of attempting to crush every political force that refuses to bow before it.

In Hoshiarpur, AAP leaders burnt an effigy of PM Modi and declared the BJP’s actions “dictatorial and anti-democratic attacks” on opposition parties. Party karyakartas asserted that the BJP was trying to spread fear through raids and coercive action, but Punjab would not surrender before such tactics.

Senior AAP leader and Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said, “The BJP has turned agencies like ED, CBI and Income Tax into political weapons. Whenever the BJP faces political defeat or resistance, it unleashes central agencies on opposition leaders. Bengal was targeted first and now Punjab is being attacked because the BJP cannot digest the growing popularity of AAP and the pro-people work being done by the Bhagwant Mann government.”

Harpal Singh Cheema asserted, “The BJP is trying to weaken democratically elected governments through intimidation because it could not defeat them politically. Punjab’s people were watching how constitutional institutions were being misused for vendetta politics.”

In Patiala, Cabinet Minister Dr. Balbir Singh led the protest march and strongly criticized the BJP for indulging in “politics of fear and intimidation.” Similar demonstrations were held in Mohali and other districts, where AAP karyakartas gathered outside BJP offices and condemned the action against Sanjeev Arora as politically motivated.

Addressing the protesters, Dr. Balbir Singh said, “The BJP’s politics revolves around threats, raids and coercion. They first pressured Punjab’s Rajya Sabha MPs and later targeted Cabinet Ministers when AAP refused to surrender before the Centre. They thought Punjab could be bullied through ED, CBI and Income Tax raids. But Punjabis have a history of standing against oppression and they will give a befitting reply to the BJP.”

Dr. Balbir Singh further said, “Why did raids against Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal stop after he joined the BJP? This exposes the real face of the BJP. Agencies become active only against those who oppose them politically. The moment someone joins BJP, all investigations disappear.”

AAP leaders affirmed that the people of Punjab would not tolerate the misuse of constitutional institutions for political revenge. The party warned the BJP-led Centre that attempts to destabilize Punjab through intimidation and vendetta politics would fail, adding that AAP volunteers would continue to raise their voice on the streets against what they described as the “murder of democracy” by the Modi government.

Pakistan’s ‘wedding economy’ takes a hit due to Middle East war: Report

Marriage-hand wedding

Karachi, May 10, 2026

The ongoing crisis in the Middle East has impacted the wedding-obsessed country, writes Fatima S Attarwala, host of All Things Money, in ‘Dawn’.

The Pakistani daily quoted Izzah Zaman, co-founder of wedding-tech startup ‘Shadiyana’, saying that amid surging fuel rates and inflation, pricing volatility has reached new highs.

“Several venues have raised rates by up to Rs 500 per head, while others are refusing to commit to winter pricing altogether, citing uncertainty around oil and input costs,” Zaman added.

Attarwala writes that the Pakistan government’s stern measures have led to further stricter regulatory enforcement that includes a 10 p.m. wedding cutoff, police intervention in cases of violations, and crackdowns on the one-dish policy, resulting in venue closures across Islamabad.

Describing the operational challenges, she noted that weddings in the capital, in particular, are “increasingly vulnerable to external disruptions”.

She attributed security cordons near the Margalla Hills during peace talks between the US and Iran, which was mediated by Pakistan, as the reason.

She emphasised that city-wide VIP protocols lead to delay in guest arrivals without warning.

Media reports suggest that last winter’s wedding season in Karachi alone was worth around Rs 33 billion, while ‘Shadiyana’ estimates Pakistani market at around Rs 900 million.

Attarwala mentioned in ‘Dawn’ that all of this is unfolding within an industry that has historically operated at enormous scale, albeit through a “fragmented and informal economy”.

Historically, Pakistan’s wedding economy has been disorganised. Entire neighbourhoods, such as North Nazimabad in Karachi, function as dense clusters of 60 to 70 wedding halls, meaning discovery of a venue is largely physical and inefficient.

Therefore, searching a venue often means driving from one location to another, only to find that most wedding halls are already booked.

According to the Pakistani newspaper, the average wedding ticket size on ‘Shadiyana’ stood at around Rs. 6,00,000 before the latest inflationary wave driven by the US-Iran conflict. Through the platform, wedding budgets have ranged from as little as Rs 20,000 to as much as Rs 4.4 million.

However, Attarwala said that the broader trend points towards contraction.

“A startup that began operations during the pandemic, then navigated the Russia-Ukraine conflict, domestic inflation, a near-default economic crisis, and now ongoing geopolitical tensions, has effectively grown alongside a series of economic shocks,” she wrote.

Moreover, the writer highlighted that West Asia war’s impact on Pakistan’s wedding economy is reflected by its consumer behaviour.

“Guest lists that once averaged 400 people have now shrunk to around 150. Budgets for venues, photography, and catering are also being reduced,” she wrote in ‘Dawn’.

Even as the conflict between US and Iran continues and fiscal pressures tighten for ordinary people, “weddings will still take place, albeit on significantly smaller budgets”.(Agency)

US State Department reports highlight China’s repression in Tibet

US Department of State Logo

Washington, May 10, 2026

The US State Department in its recent two reports exposed the severity of China’s repression in Tibet while also stressing the need for greater efforts to deal with this repression and calling for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing Tibet-China conflict, a report has stated.

The 2026 Report to Congress on Access to Tibetan Areas, which covers the 2025 calendar year and continues to be mandated by the 2018 Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act, states that China restricts journalists, diplomats and tourists from visiting Tibet, International Campaign for Tibet detailed in a report. The 2025 Report to Congress on Tibet Negotiations was also released in April.

According to the Access Report, many of the same restrictions for travelling into the Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) remained in effect in 2025, with permits needed for travelling into the region and intimidation by Chinese officials for foreigners visiting Tibetan areas. Notably, consular officials from the US embassy in Beijing travelled to TAR for an official visit in September last year, the first allowed since 2019. US consular officials met with the TAR Foreign Affairs Office and major tour operators and visited hospitals and cultural sites.

The TAR is the only region of China where foreigners, including diplomats and foreign officials, need to have special permits to travel. US officials visited Tibetan areas outside the TAR; however, meetings with local officials or offices were sometimes denied, and US officials often faced intimidation and harassment by Chinese officials through conspicuous surveillance when they were in Tibetan areas.

According to the report, the tourists and journalists continue to face restricted access to the Tibet Autonomous Region and nearly all US journalists were not allowed to travel to the region, according to the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of China. US journalists who were able to report from Tibet faced intimidation by Chinese officials.

US citizens with Tibetan heritage experience more strict screenings than other Americans when applying for permits, and many Tibetan Americans report self-censoring their behaviour in the US over fear of retribution against their family members in Tibet, according to a report in the International Campaign for Tibet.

The Negotiations Report stated that the US has made several statements on Tibet and demanded an end to human rights abuses in Tibet by the Chinese government. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a social media post and statement, wished people on Losar, the Tibetan New Year, where he reaffirmed the US’ commitment to “protecting the universal, fundamental, and inalienable human rights of Tibetans” in February 2025.

In a report, the International Campaign for Tibet stated, “While it is critically important for the US to call out the human rights abuses in Tibet, the report documents a failure to meaningfully engage the Chinese government on the resumption of Sino-Tibetan dialogue. No formal negotiations have occurred between the Chinese government and the Dalai Lama or his representatives since 2010, and the 2025 Report to Congress on Tibet Negotiations does not highlight any specific appeals for the resumption of dialogue made by US officials.”(Agency)
