Nagar Kirtan dedicated to 400th Bandi Chhor Diwas reaches Amritsar from Gwalior

The events related to Bandi Chhorh Diwas of Sri Hargobind Sahib Ji, the sixth Guru started with Panthic traditions at Sri Harmandar Sahib, under which, a Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) that arrived at Amritsar from Gwalior was solidly welcomed by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Wednesday.

This Nagar Kirtan dedicated to 400th Bandi Chhorh Diwas started its journey from Gurdwara Daata Bandi Chhorh Qila, Gwalior, which today accomplished at Sri Harmandar Sahib after passing through various phases on its way. The SGPC solidly welcomed the Nagar Kirtan on its arrival at Sri Amritsar at Golden Gate.

SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur welcomed and offered a Rumala Sahib to Sri Guru Granth Sahib enshrined inside the Palki Sahib (palanquin) and Siropaos (robes of honour) to the Panj Piaras (five beloved ones). Padam Shri Baba Sewa Singh Khadur Sahib and Baba Narinder Singh Hazur Sahib who came with the Nagar Kirtan were also offered Siropaos by Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuriwale organised large langar for the Sangat (congregation) and head of Dal Baba Bidhi Chand Baba Avtar Singh Sursingh, Baba Gajjan Singh Tarna Dal and other prominent personalities of the Panth (community) were also present.

On the arrival of the Nagar Kirtan at Sri Harmandar Sahib, it was welcomed amid the resonance of jaikaras (victory slogans) by the Sangat.

Speaking on this occasion, Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “The Bandi Chhorh Diwas of sixth Patshah Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib has great importance in the Sikh history and on this day, lakhs of pilgrims visit Sri Harmandar Sahib to pay obeisance.”

SGPC President informed that the officiating Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh will deliver his message to the Qaum (community) from Darshani Deorhi of Sri Harmandar Sahib tomorrow (on Thursday) at 5 pm.

Bibi Jagir Kaur said that while dedicating this day, the entire Qaum should be determined to work together for flourishing the Sikh faith and pay homage to the Guru Sahib by embracing Bani and Bana (Gurbani and traditional Sikh attire).

On the occasion of welcoming the Nagar Kirtan, SGPC senior vice-president S. Surjit Singh Bhitewad, general secretary Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, chief secretary Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, SGPC members Bhai Manjit Singh Bhurakohna, Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, S. Jarnail Singh Dogranwala, S. Bawa Singh Gumanpura, Bhai Ram Singh, additional secretary S. Sukhdev Singh Bhurakohna, assistant secretary S. Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, Sri Darbar Sahib manager S. Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, OSDs to SGPC President Dr Amrik Singh Latifpur and Dr Sukhbir Singh and others were present.
