The Punjab government has appointed Senior Advocate Maninderjit Singh Bedi as the new Advocate General (AG) of the state. He replaces Gurminder Singh Garry, who Saturday resigned as AG Punjab.
A notification issued late in the evening confirmed Bedi’s Appointment as AG.
The notification said, “The Governor of Punjab, in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 165 of the Constitution of India, is pleased to appoint Sh. Maninderjit Singh Bedi, son of Inderjit Singh Bedi, as the Advocate General for the State of Punjab with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
Bedi’s appointment follows the resignation of Senior Advocate Gurminder Singh Garry, who stepped down from the post stating, “As I intend to resume my private practice, I am not inclined to continue on the post.”
Gurminder Singh is the fourth Advocate General to resign in the three-year tenure of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab.
