New Delhi, October 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has lodged an official complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over an alleged scoring error that proved costly for the state’s women’s Under-19 team in their T20 championship pre-quarter-final against Uttarakhand.

The JSCA has urged the BCCI to examine the incident, alleging that the scorers failed to credit Jharkhand with a run during the match. The team eventually lost the contest by just one run.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the scoring error occurred during the final over of Jharkhand’s chase of Uttarakhand’s 135-run target in Nagpur last week. Jharkhand were 127/7 at the end of the 19th over and needed eight runs from the final six deliveries to win.

They scored three runs from the first three balls, leaving them requiring five from the next three deliveries. The crucial moment came on the fourth ball, when Lakshmi Kumari was run out while attempting a second run with Eshika Bhagat at the crease.

The report stated that the batters had completed one run before the dismissal, but the scorers failed to add it to Jharkhand’s total and recorded only the run-out. As a result, the team was left needing five runs from the final two balls.

Uttarakhand bowler Kanika Negi then delivered a wide, reducing the target to four runs from two balls. On the next delivery, No. 10 batter Isha was run out while attempting two runs. This time, the run was credited, leaving Jharkhand needing three runs from the final ball.

As Bhagat faced the last delivery, No. 11 batter Ishika Deepak was also run out while the batters attempted to complete two runs. The run was credited, but Jharkhand ultimately fell short by one run. The JSCA has maintained that the run not credited on the fourth ball of the over proved decisive.

Reacting to the incident, head coach Jaskaran Singh called for the matter to be reviewed.

“This was the first time Jharkhand had qualified for the knockouts of the women’s Under-19, so the result is extremely disappointing,” Jaskaran said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. “Had this been a league game, the situation may have been different. For players in particular, tournaments like these are extremely important.”

“We hope the matter will be looked into so that we can prevent such errors again. We even got the video of the final over checked within the team before lodging a complaint, and it was very clear that the scorers had made a mistake. We immediately brought it to the match referee Anupa Narvekar’s attention, after the presentation,” he added.
