Insulting language against Bhindranwale in book: SGPC Chief writes to Punjabi University VC, warns of legal action

Amritsar, July 13, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh has taken strict notice of a book published by Distance Education Department of Punjabi University, in which, Sikh General Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale has been written as terrorist in the syllabus of MA Political Science and has ordered strict action in this matter.

This controversial language has been used by the Punjabi University in the Punjabi medium book of fourth semester’s Political Politics paper of MA Political Science. On page 26 onwards of the concerned book starting with chapter heading ‘Punjab De Sikh Jangju Andolan Da Vishleshan’ (Analysis of Sikh Militant Movement in Punjab), Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale has been targeted and the curriculum contains more controversial information about the Sikh struggle.

In view of the seriousness of the matter, SGPC President S. Harjinder Singh has ordered to take action, under which, SGPC has written a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University and concerned department asking to clarify the insulting content.

S. Harjinder Singh said, “Such a mischievous act by Punjabi University is an expression of its anti-Punjab and anti-Sikh intentions which could endanger the peaceful atmosphere of Punjab. This is a very serious issue, through which irresponsible action has been taken to link the youth with anti-Sikh ideology under the pretext of syllabus.”

SGPC President said that Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale is a Qaumi Shaheed (declared martyr by Sri Akal Takht Sahib), who fought struggle for the rights of Sikhs and Punjab, and was martyred in a clash with army that advanced to desecrate the Gurdhams (Sikh shrines).

“It will not be accepted that the university defines the martyr of Sikh Qaum in derogatory terms. Legal action would be taken if the university did not amend the content and apologise”, said S. Harjinder Singh.
