Haryana BJP President Pt. Mohan Lal Bodoli appointed District Observers for the party’s new membership drive/programme in all 22 districts of the State.
The list includes the name of Haryana Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini who has been appointed co-observer for Kurukshetra district along with a former MLA of Ambala City, Assem Goel.
Former Chief Minister of the State and sitting Lok Sabha MP from Karnal, Manohar Lal, who is also Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs and Power, has been appointed Observer for Karnal district.
Further party’s 2 Lok Sabha MPs viz. Krishan Pal Gurjar (also Union Minister of State for Cooperation) and Ch. Dharambir Singh have been appointed Observers for districts of Faridabad and Charkhi Dadri respectively whereas 2 Rajya Sabha MPs viz. Subhash Barala and Kiran Chaudhary have been appointed Observers for districts of Sirsa and Bhiwani respectively.
Meanwhile, Independent MP of Rajya Sabha from Haryana, Kartikeya Sharma, has also been appointed Observer for BJP’s new membership programme for the Ambala district which has raised eyebrows.
Hemant Kumar, an Advocate at Punjab & Haryana High Court asserted that Paragraph 2(2) of Tenth Schedule to the Constitution of India ( commonly known as Anti-Defection Law) stipulates that an Elected member of a House who has been elected as such otherwise than as a candidate set up by any political party (read as Independent) shall be disqualified for being a member of the House if he joins any political party after such election.
Now, the moot but significant legal point is that although as on date, Independent Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana, Kartikeya Sharma, has not officially or publicly joined the BJP however if that’s really so, then if & how he has been or can be appointed Observer for Ambala District pertaining to party’s new membership drive, which is essentially party’s core organizational programme, by none other than State BJP President and that too vide a Press Note issued on party’s official letterhead, quips Hemant.
Hemant also told that Kartikeya Sharma, who got elected as Independent Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana in the year June, 2022 and who from very beginning of this tenure has been supporting Modi Sarkar at the Centre was however neither included in BJP’s list of Star Campaigners for the State of Haryana during 18th Lok Sabha General Election in April-May 2024 nor his name figured as such in such list for 15th Haryana Assembly General Election in Sep-Oct, 2024.
Pertinent that Kartikeya’s mother, Shakti Rani Sharma, a former Mayor of Ambala Municipal Corporation, who officially joined BJP in September this year, contested on party’s ticket from Kalka Assembly Constituency in Panchkula district and got elected as MLA from there.
Kartikeya’s father, Venod Sharma, a former veteran Congress leader, left the grand old party in the year 2014 and floated his own Haryana Jan-Chetna Party (V) which is still a registered non-recognized political party in the State of Haryana.
