Industries & Commerce, Investment Promotion, Local Government and Power Minister Sanjeev Arora today interacted with the industrialists of Bathinda, Mansa, Barnala, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Faridkot and Fazilka during the district level meeting of MSMEs held here. Mr Arora gave a patient hearing to the issues of industrialists at the event and solved many of the problems on the spot.
Addressing the event, Minister Sanjeev Arora stated that Micro, Small and Medium Entreprises (MSMEs) hold key to economic growth not only in Punjab but in the entire nation. MSME constitutes 30 percent of jobs in the industrial sector and adds to 30 percent of country’s GDP from this sector. Similarly, in Punjab too MSMEs hold great significance and have become the backbone of industrial sector.
Mr Arora said that during the year 2025-26, Punjab has witnessed unprecedented investment in its history of Rs 60, 256 Crores. He added that the in year 2026-27, state will exceed its target of Rs 75,000 crore. Punjab has recently hosted country’s best Investment Summit that saw massive participation from Japan, Korea, UK apart from the industry giants of India.
Keeping in view the whopping response of investors and the suggestions of state industry, the Punjab government has come out with new Industrial Policy 2026. The new policy is tailor made to encourage green industry solutions that are environment friendly such as setting up paddy straw-based plant would attract huge subsidy and encouragement from government.
During the interaction meet, several problems of the industrialists were resolved on the spot. The industrialists raised issues related to Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSEIC). Responding to the query, Mr Arora said that soon the industrial approvals through PSIEC will be made available online. Industrialists can apply for various permissions online and they shall get response of the same too in the online format.
Answering a query pertaining to development of focal point Bathinda Mr Arora said that Rs 16 cr have been sanctioned to augment basic infrastructure of which works of Rs 13 cr have been allotted and that of remaining Rs 3 cr too shall be allotted soon. He told the industrialists that with the commencement of flights from Halwara airport, the business from Malwa region will get major fillip.
Interacting with the media persons, the Minister said that industrial policy 2026 has streamlined even those business sectors that earlier did not fall under ambit of industry. These majorly include film business and hospitality sector. He added that government giving heavy subsidy upto Rs 10 cr on environment friendly projects such as zero liquid discharge. Similarly, industries setting up boilers using paddy straw will get incentives up to Rs 7.5 crore.
Answering a media query, Mr Arora said that by the end of month of May, the 2120 km of roads in urban areas of state will be laid anew at cost of Rs 1300 cr.
On this occasion, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce, Punjab, Gurkirat Kirpal Singh gave detailed information about the industry-friendly policies of the Punjab government through.
